Tavik getting the shivers and puffing up his fur when surprised is not a particularly common trait for a venlil, who'd rather make themselves smaller when under stress, but it certainly makes him more expressive in human eyes
Speaking of which, the horizontal/rectangular pupils make for very striking expressions when shrunk, while not even being clearly square when dilated and relaxed

After the first day going about as well as could be expected, it was the second day of contact that revealed that Tavik's human has developed a mild allergy - not to venlil fur, as one may expect, but to venlil dandruff. It took a day of build-up for it to affect her, and cause a short sneezing fit
