At first I had no green thumb at all; the plants I bought for myself a few years ago all died pretty much instantly, which made me give up on making a jungle out of my house for quite a while. It wasn't until I picked up a tiny little plant from the store - a vine that was in a pot so small it fit inside of a mug - that I really fell in love with caring for plants. At first, I thought a plant would be happy wherever I put it in the house, or wherever it "looked" nice. But when I got this tiny plant that was easy to move around, I realized that when I put it closer to the window where it was happiest, it grew fast and had a cute little spring to it. It went bright green when I gave it the right amount of water, and watching it grow a little more each week made me really happy in a calm way. Plants are a little bit like people, I guess. Just because we put ourselves somewhere that looks right - like in a certain job, or around certain people - doesn't mean that we'll grow as healthy and happy as we could. Sometimes I tell myself I'd be happier if I had an academic career still, or that I'd be better off if I was more social and outgoing ... but at the end of the day, I am my happiest when I'm my little houseplant-self, enjoying sunshine through a big wide window and staying hydrated on my own indoors :P Anyway I doubt you imagined to read a long rambling essay about why I love plants today on OnlyFans, but there you have it.
