Dungeon Robotics 10-5
Added 2021-03-24 15:31:56 +0000 UTCGood morning Everyone. Sorry for not posting on Monday, I drove fourteen hours on Sunday and got home around midnight. Normally i would have a chapter set to release like Revenge, but I was just too distracted over the weekend to write DR. I will attempt to get another chapter up before the night is over, but no promises. I have people at my house working and I'm not sure when I'll be able to write.
Chapter 5
Regan
Blinking, I looked around then groaned before moving to sit down at a pew. I had been here before. It was the infinite church like place that Creation and Destruction had brought me to before. If I was here, that meant I broke something again. I just hoped it didn’t require me being locked in a extra dimensional jail cell. I had technically escaped from the last one they threw me in.
“Don’t worry. You managed to get out following the rules placed there. Thus no harm and no foul,” a voice called from behind me.
Looking, I saw a man in a business suit walking down the aisle. He had what looked like a galaxy for a head. The rest, however, looked just like a man. I looked behind him and even around the area, but didn’t spot Destruction.
“Nice look,” I said finally.
“Thank you. I like to keep things fresh. Kind of like you. That’s what your third or fourth form now?”
“What can I say? I like to keep things fresh,” I parroted back then cleared my throat. “What exactly have I done this time?”
“Nothing too crazy. Nothing that needs to be punished. Actually, I wanted to congratulate you. Soteria and Soter are amazing. Truly unique. As you earthlings might say, the Adam and Eve of a new race.” Creation spread his hands apart and galaxies flashed between them. Whether they were real or not, I decided I’d rather not know.
“Really?” I asked. They were amazing, but I didn’t think they were too off the wall. They were basically my avatar form with a few added pieces.
“Dungeon cores will never be the same. You helped them evolve. Someday, all existing cores will be replaced with these new beings.”
“So you’re saying I created my own replacement?” I understood how evolution worked, and knew that a species would eventually be replaced by their better version. Survival of the fittest and all that, I just didn’t expect that I would be the to cause it. “What about the dungeon cores that are still living?”
A feminine voice whispered into my ear causing me to jump. “They will live their lives into the future. But eventually, all things end. One way or another.” Destruction appeared from nothingness in a similar form to Creation only female and took his arm. “Contrary to popular belief, living forever requires a certain… trait. Most beings can last a thousand years. Those that last longer require long periods of rest.”
“That is an interesting fact. What happens to a dungeon core?” I couldn’t help but ask.
She put a finger to her lips. “Secret. Live a few thousand years and find out.”
“Don’t tempt me. I’ll do it. My curiosity knows no bounds,” I retorted with a smirk.
“Well. Our time is up. We’re enjoying watching you. I’ve moved souls around before, but few have made as big a splash as you,” Creation said clapping slowly.
“I’ll… take that as a compliment.”
“About the new race. Call them the Viventum. I think that suits them. They are much like a mortal and a core combined thus, you won’t be able to freely create them for long. I will delay… updating, I guess would be best word to use, the magic for three days Murgin time. After that, if you create any more of them, they will have full free will by the way, so you should treat them well.”
“Got it.” I already treated my creations as children, but I guess if he felt the need to warn me then their impact in the world was going to be greater than I anticipated. As long as it wasn’t a repeat of Earth, I would welcome them with open arms. Of course, I would make sure to scold them if they do anything too evil.
The scene broke up around me and after a few moments of blackness, I was standing next to Alara with the two Viventum cores in front of me. The conversation only took a second in the real world. I rubbed my head before I just put it aside. I had done what I’d done. Nothing can change that now.
I now had a much harsher time limit if I wanted to use them to protect the cores that I planned to seed around the world, but they will be much better in the long run. My creations all have a decent level of free will, but a large chunk of them had a hard time moving without orders. Even after they develop a personality.
Checking my mana pool and the planned number of seeds, I decided it would be best to create them while I could them assign them to their places later. Since they have free will, they might reject me, but I would have to hope that I can convince to work for me for at least until the invasion was dealt with. After that, I would have to work with each of them to make sure they were where they wanted to be.
“This makes things a little complicated,” I said with a sigh.
“Regan?”
“Sorry. I was paid a visit from some friends.” I moved over and placed my hands on the shoulders of the two. “Well. It looks like I created something way over the top, but I don’t think I made a mistake. When everything is over, I won’t begrudge you if you leave the dungeon.”
“Thank you, father. During our creation we saw much of the situation that you were creating us for. We know what we are going into and,” Setoria looked to her counterpart. “At least in my case, I think the cause is a worthy one. Even if we have free will, I doubt the demons will let us be if they manage to take over the world.”
“I concur with my other,” Setor said with a enthusiastic nod.
“I can honestly say that I am relieved to hear you two say that,” I replied trying not to sigh. Up to this point whenever I created a child for the dungeon, they had will but calling it free will would have been a stretch. They had personalities that while diverse had one thing in common, they were undyingly loyal to me. That… setting couldn’t be easily changed, at least from what I’ve seen during the last year and a half.
It could be expanded, however. I had seen my automata and goblins bond with outsiders of the dungeon. Much like with Grey and Anna, the blind elf that the golem that guarded the tower in town fell in love with. There were many other situations that had pushed my creations past their programmed limits. It was always pleasing to see.
“Let’s make some more Viventum,” I said patting their shoulders.
Two days later, large group of the Viventum stood in front of me. After the first two, their looks grew much more diverse. The first two were also the most powerful. I had to admit that I may have let out a breath of relief once I was finished and they were all willing to help protect the world.
Much like normal mortals, their personalities were just as diverse. Some were hot headed, while others were calm and collected. I didn’t feel like any were evil, at least in the full capacity of the word, which was another win. They were created in pairs, and from what I saw they were all accepting of their partners.
Creating so many of them at once had strained my mana pool. Even with all the High Races inside at the moment, it was still a burden. There was still the matter of creating my seeds for the other cities and locations that needed to be protected. As it stood, I was planning on giving Alara more than just one or two. The real number was going to come to around half of the planned seeds.
I found Alara playing with some of the Viventum. They loved her much like a child would a mother. “You ready for our trip?” I asked walking up on the group that was currently engaged in tossing a ball of steel back and forth. Anything less dense was obliterated otherwise.
“Yes!” Alara replied with excitement. She leapt into my arms then proceeded to climb onto my shoulders.
“Good. Everyone, come with us. We’re heading out,” I called to the group.
