Revenge of the Sorcerer King 3 - 17

Good morning everyone! How's it going?! Why are we yelling!!??

Chapter 17

Oberon

Waving my hand, I opened a portal to Fallen Haven and stepped through. With us leaving the city soon, I wouldn’t be able to visit for a while. I wanted to make sure everything was in line before we left, and I had to pay a visit to a friend. When I emerged, I found Arathorn waiting.

“Arathorn. Nice of you to be waiting for me.” The controlling fairy of the Golden Throne. I’d ordered him to guard the territory while we were after the Wandering Dungeon. The Throne wouldn’t be much help in the dungeon either way. “Any news on the Iron Maiden?”

“No. It has yet to make an appearance.”

“Well, while I expected them to arrive around the same time you did, it was more of a hope. Amantha, the controlling fairy in charge of the Iron Maiden was anything but casual. Even I had trouble knowing what went through her mind back in the day. A thousand years later, she might be completely different.

“What do you plan to do during your visit?” Arathorn asked.

“I want to do one final check on the city then call on some people. Ted and Irgire need to rejoin us. We’re marching in a few hours.”

“I shall inform them at once. Anyone else that you would like to see?”

“Lenora.”

“She should be returning from the dungeon in a few minutes. It was almost time for us to switch.”

“I’m glad to see you both working so hard. What level are you now?”

“I have just hit five hundred and two, my king.”

“Over double than mine, huh?” I commented though it was nearly three times. It took him a thousand plus years to reach that level. I needed to get to work or I’d fall behind my own forces. The sharp tapping of heels drew me from my thoughts as Lenora rounded the corner. The ground froze with each step she took.

“My king!” she cried before she rushed over to me.

“Working hard. That is always a blessing for a king to see.”

“Of course! I would be a fool to let myself slack off while my king is out working for the sake of the kingdom.”

“Speaking of, I want to take you with me.”

“I will prepare at once!” She went from excited to depressed in a split second. “But we can’t take any of the others.”

“I know that. I need able bodies for diving the dungeon when we reach it. I don’t need an army for that, just you.”

“I understand.”

“Arathorn. I would take you as well, but I know you are bound to the limits of the Golden Throne.”

“Sadly. Please allow me to join you next time you wage a war!”

“Of course. If we didn’t have to watch every direction, I would have taken you with us this time.” I smacked his shoulder then moved passed him heading for the throne room. Khaar was sitting next to the throne like always. “Khaar.”

“Master,” he stated as he started to rise.

“Remain. Where are your brother and sister? I want to take them with us.”

“I shall summon them.”

“Do that. Have you repaired the Golem facilities yet?”

“With the increased mana from the lay-line array, I could repair them immediately.”

“Do it.” I waved my hand and brought up the city screens. Khaar did as I instructed and I skipped through everything until I reached the Golem building. A large factory in the military district. I panned through it to see how different it was. It could create the Golems from mana, or from materials. At level one, it could create up to tier five golems which started at level two hundred. At two golems a week, it was slow, but they would be a considerable force once they were able to build up.

“I would also like to report that I have constructed the port connecting to the ocean. We can start constructing ships at your order.”

Moving over to the port, I found that the ships were the same. Though the mana cost was through the roof. I could only assume it had to do with the fact that deserts had little wood. With the mana cost taken into consideration, it would take roughly a week for one ship to be built without comprising the other systems in the city.

Taking in all the mana costs, it looked like expanding the lay-line network was a higher priority. Thankfully, I had just the man or rather dwarf for the job. Thragrami could build the arrays, he would just need to get to the locations. I would need to figure something out once we dealt with the Wandering Dungeon.

“Start constructing ships. Send some of your forces, the goblins or one of the other monster races, up north and start transporting wood back to the city. Use the undead if you think the mortals won’t be a problem.”

“Understood. I shall make it happen.”

“Excellent. I should be back in a week or two once we take the capital. We’ll refine our plans after that.”

“I understand.”

The clinking of metal drew my attention to Grodo and Vaunn coming into the throne room. “Ah. I want you two to head to the portal room. I’m taking you with me.” They would serve as good tanks in the dungeon, but even before that. With their high level, they would be excellent machines of death in the capital.

“Now then. I have to go pay a visit to a meddlesome god.”

Alessa

Hopping through the trees, my Familia surrounded the town. There were close to four thousand people here. While I only had about a hundred vampires. Adding in the ghouls and undead that I had with us, it put our numbers close to a thousand. Should be more than enough to deal with the town.

Observing from the woods. It appeared most of the soldiers were stationed on the walls. It wasn’t a secret anymore that Oberon and a large force of undead were moving against the country. Though, I was sure that the mortals were curious of the reason behind the aggression. If they knew it was simply because they were in his way, I wondered how many people would be rolling in their graves right now.

“As planned then?” Jade asked from next to me.

“Yes. At the signal, the undead and ghouls will move in first. Did you take care of what I asked?”

Jade gave me a face splitting grin. Something that most of the girls from the Gallery were getting better at as they fell further to the dark side. “Oh yes. Your new pets will be having a wonderful night.”

I matched her grin, my fangs reflecting in the moon light. “Wonderful.”

With a mental order, I sent the undead and ghouls the order to attack. The scent of mortal flesh and blood was strong in the air with the town only a few hundred meters away. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say the undead were a few seconds from frenzying. They were only keeping quiet with a firm hand from me.

Hair-raising moans and roars went up in the night as the force of undead started charging toward the town walls. The higher level undead rushed out ahead. Tactics might escape them, but the undead knew that the first to reach the source of the scent would be the winners. My ghouls were a bit more intelligent and were using the undead as shields.

The town started firing flaming arrows into the night. A good choice since it would serve to light the area and was a good deterrent against the undead that were weak to flames. I nodded to Jade and she stood before firing an arrow straight up. It exploded high above us. The mortals might think it was just a signal of some sort, but Jade was a magical archer. Storm clouds began to cover the stars and moon reducing the light even further.

“I still can’t believe you’ve already gotten to higher level magics than me,” I said with a fake pout.

“I’m not trying to do everything at once. All I have to know is how to pull my bowstring back. You’re trying to learn martial arts, magic, tactics, and who knows what else all at the same time,” She replied though I felt she was oversimplifying her archery skills.

“That’s why I’m glad I have you,” I said replacing my pout with a grin. The storm grew stronger until it was rain buckets. The undead were soon pounding on the wooden walls of the town. I could see the soldiers on top, panicking as they tried to kill as many as they could.

While the undead weren’t intelligent by themselves, if they had a commander then it was a completely different story. “Revenant. Have them climb the walls by using each other as ladders.”

A low moan answered me, but the ancient undead did as instructed by communicating with his fellow undead. The larger undead were soon being used a steps for the more limber undead to climb the walls. They only needed about ten meters worth of zombie ladder to reach the top.

Soon, screams of pain and death rang out from the soldiers as they were forced into a melee by the undead reaching the top of the wall. The undead were focusing on the area around the gatehouse in an attempt to take it quickly. If that fell, then the flood gates would be open and my forces could rush in without impediment.

The battle waged for close to five minutes before the gate fell. The storm had also reached a new height. Lightning cracked above us adding a sort of music to the background of the massacre. The town wasn’t doing too bad, they might even have held the undead off longer if it weren’t for the higher-level ghouls that were aiding the zombies and skeletons.

The storm failed to hide the scent of blood that wafted in from the town as well as from the ranks of my vampires that were still waiting to charge. “Looks like it’s time!” A few of my higher-level girls were taking a few of our captives and spreading the scent to get the newborns into a rage. It was a good method since the rational mind can be a hinderance when they need to fight like monsters.

I cast my gaze to the two new men. A chuckle escaped me when I saw they were both resisting as best they could. Even from nearly a hundred meters away, I could see veins popping up on their necks and arms. They wanted nothing more than to drink the blood but their morals from before were getting in the way. Maybe I should help them out.

Channeling my mana, I used blood magic to take control of the some of the fresh blood pumping from the captive. With a thought, it splashed over the two men some getting into their mouths. From there it was over, the two men snapped and only my order to wait was keeping them from charging into the town.

I stood up and cleared my throat. “Good hunting my family!” Like a whip snapping, the newborns broke from their spots and dashed toward the town. Husskan and Deldrach were well in front of the others. Husskan’s large form cracking the ground with each step while Deldrach moved like a shadow.

“Do you plan to join in?” Jade asked while firing her bow. We might be six hundred or so meters away from the walls, but she was landing every arrow she fired in a lethal spot.

“Yes. I recently learned that my level is quite lacking, and earlier found out that I will be competing with people that are quite a ways higher level than I am.”

“Then I shall accompany you. A queen must have a royal guard, should she not?”

“I’d rather you serve as my commander, but sure for tonight you may stick with me.” We nodded to each other then leapt into the air making our way to the town. It was time to get a little bloody!
