Chapter 15
Oberon
Looking over the line of undead made from the Crimson League party, I was pleased with the result. Starting with Rachel that was a Hope Stalker as the best, the quality was heads above my other undead. All of them were greater undead or better and would be quite the elite force down the road.
Two of them were made into vampires by Alessa and she was also happy with the result. The better the starting material, the better the result. She had already left to rejoin Jade and the other vampires that were terrorizing towns around the capital. She didn’t want them to be separated after what happened with her girls.
“Go join the others. Rachel, stay and join my guard. Xeria and Flaira with be your seniors, so you better listen to them.” I turned to the two in question. “Don’t over do it.”
I wasn’t sure if it was because of some quality I had, or it was inherent in the undead themselves, but the stronger undead bullied the weaker. You really couldn’t notice it with plain zombies, but once they got to higher levels of intelligence, it gets quite vicious. These two were constantly egging my third guard Yunio, the wraith, on.
“What’s the plan now?” Helena asked once everything was settled. “Head for the capital?”
“In a day or two. I want to make sure Maya is capable of operating safely outside the city. I would hate to lose her.”
“Ew. You sound so… caring.”
I laughed loudly and shook my head. “Of course, I care. That girl is the most amazing weapon that we could have right now. She is almost like a humanized version of mercy, the item we are going after.”
“Couldn’t we just use her then?”
“The load is different. I could more than enough mana to deal with the crimson fools, but if I was fighting an army or a nation or several hundred people on their level while being outside of a city. I would burn the child into a crisp in seconds.”
“Considering you crippled most of the mage towers on the continent, I wonder how much of a resistance the lordships could even put up against you.”
“Oh? You’ve already found out about that?” I asked. Not that I was keeping it a secret, it just hadn’t come up yet with everything that was happening.
“My network is skilled enough.”
I shrugged and turned to head back to the mage tower. After the battle, the eastern part of the city was partially in ruin. Coupled with the damage from Delha, this city would take a long time to recover if there were still people living here. After we leave, it will become nothing more than a bastion of the dead.
“By the way. I would like to remove the sins from you and Alessa.”
“I would be quite happy to leave behind these shackles.”
“With the goblins, I killed more than a few. If possible, I would like to practice of some vampires that might not have all your confidence before we get to the main event.”
“I have a few in my Familia that I changed as more of a punishment than because I really wanted them. It will take a few days for them to reach us, but you can practice on them once they do.”
“That is fine. I’m more than a little worried about the temper on the girl. She almost lost in a few weeks ago when her mother left after all. A mortal transforming into that thing was hard enough, if a vampire became something like that, it would be a diaster.”
“You don’t think you would win?”
I shook my head. “I don’t think I could spare her life.”
“I see. I will tell them to make haste.”
I nodded and we lapsed into silence until we reached the mage tower. I might have been able to teleport but sometimes you just wanted to take a stroll. The girls that made up made guard moving around us made for quite the sight as well. They were all beautiful before their change and afterward, they seemed to call to me even more.
Maya stood in the entrance waiting. She ran out when she saw me. “Master! You’re alright!”
“Of course. It was easier than cutting the grass,” I said with a laugh patting her head.
“I heard explosions from the city. It was scary.”
“We’re all in one piece, can’t say the same for the enemy though.” I kneeled and checked the girl’s pulse. “How are you feeling?”
“Good. The elixir is working! I haven’t felt so good in months!”
The elixirs in the tower were mid-level and while they did the job of keeping her body stable, they lacked the necessary strength to let her improve. I had used some of the materials from my sub-dimension to craft a few high level elixirs. I wasn’t sure what a thousand years might do to their workings, but it appeared to be fine.
“Good to hear it. If you continue to improve, we should be able to leave in a day or two. Rachel.” The woman moved over to us. “You’re to guard this girl with your life. Understand.”
“Yes. Master.”
“Why is she here!?” Maya yelped moving behind me.
“You know her?” I asked curious.
“She is the one that took me from the orphanage and gave me to the old man.”
“What do you know of this?” I asked Rachel.
“Yes. I was ordered by the grandmaster of the mage’s guild to find a child that possessed a high tolerance to mana burn and a fairly large mana pool. After an extensive search only five children were found in the lordship. Of those five, only this one survived the modifications needed for the project. After this, I was not needed and thus have no more knowledge.”
“I see.” I turned back to Maya. “You might have a past, but I just killed her a few minutes ago, so she belongs to me. You can tell her to do anything you want as long as you don’t betray me or harm what is mine. And make sure to keep her in working order.”
I wasn’t too worried about what a child could order her to do, but there were moments that I saw some incredible intelligence in her eyes. Not to mention, she had been subjected to quite a few inhuman tortures. She might get creative. What will be will be. At this point, it was just bad luck on Rachel’s part.
“I can make her do what ever I want?” Maya asked. There it was. The intelligence flashed. Only this time, I also saw malice. It wasn’t very often that you saw a person want to hurt another so clearly. I’m probably creating a monster, but I almost wanted to see how far this child could go.
“Well… Within reason,” I said finally.
“Okay.”
Alessa
I sent a message to Jade as Deldrach, Husskan, and I ran. They were waiting for us at the crossroads. It looked like no one had even attempted to pass from the capital since the Crimson party had traveled through the area. They were likely on guard in the off chance that the party lost. I wondered how long until they learned of the party’s demise.
“Will the capital know if you’re defeated?” I asked since these two should know the answer.
“We had some scouts a ways from the city, but master Oberon dealt with them. We have a week to report before they assume we’ve been lost.”
“I see. What should we expect if we assault the city?”
“Kalia lordship boasts a standing army of fifty thousand, though that number is reduced from the recent expedition. There are between two and four thousand adventurers in the city. I don’t know much of the mages’ situation.”
“Huh. I guess if it was too easy, it would take all the fun out of it,” I commented with a snicker. Deldrach frowned but didn’t say anything. Just because they became vampires, they didn’t lose their memories. They just couldn’t go against anything that I said. For now, they were ordered to not say or do anything that might threaten me or Oberon. I wondered if he had a lover or family in the capital. It might serve well to have them become an example.
With our speed, we soon regrouped with the rest of my Familia. Jade stood in the center of the group and had a worried expression. I hopped down from the trees and landed in front of her. “Jade.”
“Mistress. We felt your anger. Are you okay?”
“Yes. Some of the new girls and one of the girls from the Gallery were killed. Oberon and I got revenge,” I replied pointing a thumb at the two men. “These are the main ones responsible. Use them like slaves.”
“As you wish.”
I nodded then looked at everyone in turn. Their levels had all gone up several times. “How is it looking?”
“We’ve completely destroyed four villages in the area. There is a town to the north, but we’ve not made any moves on it, but we’re confident that we can crush it.”
I glanced at the two men and grinned exposing my fangs fully. “As it just so happens. We have two new vampires in need of levels.” Dread washed over the two as they realized what I had planned.
I let Jade handle the finer details. She was just better at it than I was. I was brute force in the form of magical brawler. While she worked on that, I stood to the side trying to synthesis the poison that I made in my snake form. I had some of it that I saved after the battle so that I could compare.
The process took a while, but I finally got close to something that was usable on the battlefield. It wasn’t as corrosive as the poison I used on Deldrach, but it would bring any mortal that wasn’t too much higher level than me to their knees. Glancing back to the camp, I wondered if it would work on vampires. Maybe not right now, but in the future, it sounded like I would have to fight some of my own kind so assert my dominance.
“Deldrach! Come here.”
“Yes… mistress,” he groaned as he kneeled in front of me.
“Hold out your hand.” He did as he was told and I formed a few drops of the liquid and let it drip onto his skin. “Do you feel anything?” He shook his head. I extended one of my nails, and nicked the back of his hand to let the poison seep in. Again he shook his head.
I concentrated on the poison, but my skill level was too low. I would need to level it before it would be able to affect him and he was only level five. There were vampires like Helena that were over five hundred or even higher. I would need to work on my own level again soon.
“Okay. Go back to the others.”
I flexed my fist watching my claws. The image of blood dripping from them making my throat hurt from thirst. When we attacked the capital, I needed to be on the front lines, or my level was going to start stagnating. I couldn’t have that. I thought about it and opened my status. It had been a while since I’d looked it over.

I blinked not sure what to make of it. I realized that I had completely forgotten my birthday in all the chaos. Though it looked like Siateth hadn’t. My only concern was what this royal daughter thing was. It wasn’t listed under anything. Maybe a subrace? Was that a thing?
I checked it again to make sure I saw right and found a bunch of new skills added to the bottom of the list that weren’t there a second ago. [Royal Aura: Basic] [Royal Command: Basic] [Right to the Throne] [Unending]. I rubbed my temple as my head started to hurt when I realized there wasn’t any sound coming from the camp.
When I looked up, everyone was kneeling in front of me. “What? What is it?” I was used to them kneeling, but this was the first time that it happened without there being a reason.
“May your reign last until the end of times and beyond,” Jade said with a bowed head. “Your highness.”
I gulped. “Yeah. I’ll see what I can do. Everyone back to work.” What had I gotten into this time?
