Yay! It's friday ya'll!

Louella

“Wait! What do you plan to do?!” I asked quickly before it moved on further.

Regan tilted his head up. I could literally see the gears in his head moving as he thought it up just now. This wasn’t good. If we weren’t careful, Regan could wipe the city from the face of the planet just to be done with it. I had seen the types of weapons that he had at his call.

“Don’t worry! I’ll try not to kill anyone!” he said with a grin before he vanished.

“Pull the ships back two, no, four hundred meters. I’m not sure if that will be enough but at least it will give us some space.”

“That probably won’t be enough,” Wrakras mumbled next to me.

I dropped my head into my hands, but what was done was done. I dismissed everyone and went out onto the deck of the ship. They were still repairing some of the damage that we acquired during the battle, but it was mostly superficial. The evening breeze was warm given that we were closing in on the end of summer. It would be beautiful if not for the army staring at us.

I was wondering how long we were going to wait when a giant magic circle formed over the city. It soon eclipsed the walls and was larger than the diameter of the city. I quickly ordered the crew to raise shields. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but I wanted to be ready for anything.

Regan soon appeared from the center of the circle with his arms spread. Large wings made from light and energy spread out on either side of him. “Mortals. Hear me! The Machine Father has decided to pay you a visit, but you block my herald!”

He raised his arms and golden bolts of lightening struck just outside each of the city gates. The flash was bright enough that I had to cover my eyes. When it died down, I saw four giants that towered over the gates by dozens of meters. They reminded me of the giant that Regan had sitting over his dungeon entrance.

Each giant wore beautiful metal armor that glistened in the sunlight. Two appeared to have a female form, while the other two were male. The four giants reached to their back and drew a sword that was at least forty meters long. As they raised them over their heads, they began to glow.

They swung in unison and the blades sliced cleanly through the gates then into the ground until they were buried up to their hilt. The gate quite literally exploded as they force vaporized the stone structures. The giants then pulled their weapons free of the ground.

“I was merciful. Anyone near my giants was moved to a safe location. This will not happen again!” Regan called to the citizen below him.

The giants started to move through the city, heading for the palace. As one could imagine, no one attempted to stop them. Even adventurers would fear these beings. I thought the buildings would get in the way, but the giants were easily able to maneuver around any that were too close. Without a hushed silence they were soon standing around the palace.

They raised their swords then plunged them straight down, burying them to their hilt. The glow from earlier started to spark then grow as a barrier encased the palace. It began to raise from the ground and was soon a few hundred meters above the palace.

“I am merciful. I will not make the people suffer for the actions of their king and nobles. People that swore to protect you.” Regan waved his hand and soon the streets were lined with barrels and crates. Squinting, I noticed they were stuffed with grains and wheat, while the barrels contained what looked like a mead or something similar.

“Soldiers of Thonaca! Cease this foolish war with people you once called your brothers and sisters! Look into your hearts and you will know that the words of the church have been fouled by greed and hate. Has not the church taken from you when most of you had little to give? Why must you fight for them when they did not fight for you?”

All along the wall, one than two then more, the soldiers started to drop their swords. They knew it was a foolish fight ever since the battle in the pass. Being soldiers sworn to follow the orders of the nobles and royals, they had no choice but to fight when told to do so. None of that matter now. The Thonacan palace was floating on its way out of the city, while four giants that could crush a crowd of people flat stood in its place.

“Plot a course to where the palace will land. Let’s end this war.”

~~

Striding into the palace grounds that were now several kilometers outside of the city, most of the guards that were in the structure let us pass without a fight. Those that still held any semblance of the idea of defending their king were quickly incapacitated by the soldiers. They used flat bullets made of rubber to take them down with killing anyone. Something that Regan talked about in a few of his books.

“This might have been the short war, but it will definitely go down in history,” Val said as we approached the throne room.

“Don’t let your guard down,” the admiral cautioned. He refused to say on his ship, but to be fair, he was one of few members of the fleet that had already broken through to tier three. Though, using Regan’s weapons, I felt that might mean little in the future.

The guards forced the doors open and we found the king slumped over in his throne. A few advisors and guards were also present. “Come to deal the final blow heretic?” the king said with a growl as he looked up at us.

“I would think Lelune is the heretic considering what she’s done to our history. But that’s beside the point. Surrender so that we can end this.”

“N…” I narrowed my eyes as the king mumbled. A second later he jumped to his feet with insane eyes. “Never! I’ll never give up my throne to some Lecazarian bitch that came out of nowhere. What machine father!? A false idol by a fool that would call herself queen! You have nothing! My line has existed for five thousand years! We were there during the Demon wars! It will exist long after you are gone. Someone! Kill her! Bring me her head!”

I stood there with my hands on my hips just shaking my head. He was gone. Much too far gone. I feared the only way to bring this to an end was to kill him. At least it was just him and not all the innocents in the streets of the city.

“No one here wants to die for your hubris. Right now the only fool is you,” I said with a sigh.

“Fine! I’ll do it myself!” he growled drawing his sword. All my guards reacted by readying themselves. “Valaravans! Do it!” A man that was hiding in the shadows stepped forward with a bow and before anyone could react stuck the king with a dagger. It shattered before its pieces sank into his body. “I told you. We’ve been around since the Demon wars! Hahahahaha!” He continued to laugh maniacally as his body began to bulge.

“Everyone get back!” If he blew his pool, even at tier three, he could take out the entire area for three or four kilometers. I readied a barrier incase that was the case. The king’s skin started to turn black before it looked similar to scales of a dragon. Two large wings emerged that easily spanned the ten meters on either side of him. A crone of horns that I knew could sunder anything they impacted formed on his head.

“Ah. Five thousand years in that was too long. What are the others doing?” the monster asked before he looked around. “Oh. Mortals. Being sealed for five millennium does make one a tad hungry.” He turned his gaze on me then licked his lips. “Now you are a mighty fine morsel. I bet all the demons tell you that.”

“I’m afraid you’re the first I’ve met.” I quickly sent a message to Regan, but there was a lot of interference. I couldn’t be sure it reached him.

“You’re not a slave?” he looked around again. “Certainly, this is more to a mortals tastes.” He then proceeded to sniff the air. “Yep. I don’t smell much. So we lost, that’s a first.”

“Demon! I freed you so kill them!” Valaravans shouted.

“Did you… did you just order me?” the demon asked sounding more astonished then angry.

“If I break the seal I become your master, that was what was written in the ancient texts!” Valaravans growled.

The demon just stared at him then burst out laughing. “I guess five thousand years has its benefits! You fool!” there was a flash and the demon’s arm was through Valaravans and even into the wall behind him. “That dagger was a prison. You’re annoying celestials bound me to a physical vessel of this world allowing their mana to affect me. I guess some one decided to change history to make their family a little more important.”

“Impo…ssible.” Valaravans said before he coughed up a large amount of blood. It looked like too much had been destroyed and he soon stopped breathing.

The demon ripped his hand free. “Hmm. I’m a little rusty. Missed his heart by a bit.” A tongue slithered out and licked the blood from his hand. I noticed that my soldiers were shaking as the sound of rattling metal reached my ears. Well, I couldn’t blame them. I was terrified myself. “Now then.” He looked us over again. “If you leave the girl, I’ll allow the rest of you to live. At least for a while.”

“Everyone. Please leave me.”

“But your highness!”

“Go. I’d rather some of us live today to tell the others than for us all to die.” Some hesitate, but eventually they all ran for the exit. Their instinct to survive overpowering. Of course, the Thonacan officials were already out the door.

“Oh. So noble. You’re turning me on. I can count the number of people on one hand that managed to survive after they said something like that. Will you get to join the list?”

“Maybe not, but I’m not going to let you have your way!” I twirled my staff as I took a stance and started channeling my mana. According to Regan, mana didn’t affect the demons them but they could be harmed through physical attacks and purely natural phenomena. The energy that was rolling off the demon felt completely opposite to mana. I could still tell one thing. He was heads above me in strength.

“If we’re going to fight, I should at least know the name of my food.”

I stuck my chest out in pride. Even if I died in a few minutes, I was proud of how my life had gone. No one was going to take that from me. “Louella Coates. Queen of Vaihdetta.”

He laughed with his dragon like face giving a horrifying grin. “Very good! I am Thogran! General of the seventh invasion fleet.”

We stared at each other before he charged at me. I molded my staff to take a spear point. “Gulv!” the lightning elemental flew from around my neck and fused with Helios. As the demon brought his fist down, I jumped to the side and slashed his forearm. The wound healed as I watched, but at least I had hurt him.

“Oh. The first mortal I encounter and you can actually hurt me. Has your world advanced during my sleep?” Thogran said as he ran a finger along the spot.

“I don’t know about that, but you’re never getting the chance to find out!” I channeled my mana and sent bolts of lightning into his chest. Other than knock him back a little, it really had no effect. I gritted my teeth and quickly took some distance.

“That really helped my muscles. They were feeling awfully stiff!” He vanished from my sight and appeared right in front of me. I barely managed to get Helios in the path before his fist sent me flying through the wall into the next room. The wall I collided with collapsed on me forcing me to push it off.

Coughing from the dust, I sensed something and threw up my guard as Thogran brought his fists down on me. Apparently there was a basement as I was slammed through the floor to impact the solid ground. Again, I felt something coming and rolled out of the way as Thogran buried his fist up to the elbow in the ground.

I stood wincing from the pain in my arms and back. “Is that all. I’m almost disappointed.”

“No. I’m impressed. You’ve survived four blows from me. Truly impressive!”

I frowned at the arrogant why he was treating this battle. For me it was life and death, for him it was some sort of work out. I tightened my grip of Helios and spit the blood from my mouth. “Come!”

“As you wish!” Again he flashed right in front of me. This time I channeled my mana into forcing the air into a wall of plasma that coated his arm as it impacted me. I was sent through the ceiling, but his scream of pain was worth the one or two broken ribs I had just gotten. When I came to a stop, I was sitting on the half-crushed pile that was the throne. “Not bad. Few have hurt me this bad.”

Thogran hopped into the room. I saw part of his left arm was missing though it was healing before my eyes. How did the people from the past manage to survive long enough to even seal these things? I grunted as I got to my feet. The fight wasn’t over yet.

“I plan on hurting you a whole lot more,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Please. I can infinitely heal. You on the other hand, I bet two, three more blows and you’ll be done.”

“Try me!”

I kicked off and flew towards him staff point leading. He just shook his head then suddenly spun, a tail I had somehow missed up to this point, slammed into me sending through the other side of the hall this time. My left side felt like it was entirely broken.

Why was I so weak when having so much power? It didn’t matter that I was tier four or a high human. It wasn’t enough when it actually mattered! I just hoped that Regan was able to finish him off once someone told him the situation. My biggest regret that I wouldn’t get to see the sun spirits again.

Fight like you mean it.

I suddenly felt a well spring of mana from inside me. It was similar to the time the sun spirits poured their mana into me only this felt much more ancient. I gasped as my body healed in seconds. The air around me burned as my blood raged.

“What’s this magic!?” I vaguely heard the demon say before I launched myself at him. There was so much energy raging through my body, that I thought I would break if the energy stopped supporting me. I wrapped Helios in the energy before I threw the weapon. It streaked through the air and impaled the demon through the stomach. He was blasted through the entrance of the throne room. I reveled a little in the fact that I managed to throw him once.

It suddenly felt like chains were wrapped around me. The image of a small girl with green hair came to me before the energy drained almost as fast as it had come. I dropped to my knees, the ground melting under me as steam and smoke left me. I looked up as the Thogran climbed through the hole in the wall. The wound to his stomach healing before my eyes.

“I don’t know what that was, but I’m not letting you get a second chance.”

A strange black energy started to spark around his hand. I knew if that touched me I would die, but I was too weak from the energy leaving me to move. I dropped my head accepting my fate.

A loud growl caught my attention as the demon cried out in pain. I looked up expecting Regan to find Wrakras. His body was wreathed in shadows. He knelt in front of me and stroked my cheek. “Sorry I’m late. Everyone has retreated to a safe location. My turn.”

“Insolent bug. I’ll teach you the meaning of fear!”

“I don’t fear you and never will. There is only one being in this universe that I fear. Someone that controls all and has slain demons before.”

Thogran laughed loudly. “Jest all you want. I’m going to kill you before I eat the girl. I’ll make sure to savor every bite for you, good knight.”

“Bring it on!”
