Revenge of the Sorcerer King 3-13

Good morning everyone! How's the week going?

Chapter 13

Oberon

“The undead do have a way of feeling on top of the world. How about I knock you down a peg or two,” the woman said while checking her nails. She seemed aloof even though I had magical sucker punched her ally in the gut. I wanted to see how long she could maintain it.

“Yes. Yes! I like it! That attitude. How long can you entertain me little girl?” I asked cackling despite myself. Maybe my undeath was fueling my own bit of insanity. Not that I didn’t already know that.

The woman crossed her arms under her breasts as if to emphasize them. I had to admit her chest might be the largest I had seen since my return, but nothing compared to a few of my harem from back in the day. “Does these look like the weapons of a little girl?” she asked with some indignation.

“I’ve seen better,” I replied with a yawn.

“Would you two stop flirting and just kill each other already?” Helena asked pulling her shield from her shadows. She must have had a spare, considering her shield had been torn into pieces during the fight with the avatar.

“Jealous?” I asked getting a snort before raising my hand. A spell matrix formed at the end. Several dozen lances made from different elements formed above us. The spell was only of the third tier if you were to compare, but over my years of study and research, I had perfected it to an art. “Round one. Let’s see how many survive.”

“Rachel Moro will slay the Greater lich. No one else touch him!” the woman shouted pointing directly at me.

I put a hand to my chest as if wounded. “Greater lich? Is that all you take me for?” I asked in mock disgust. “The great Oberon Dark Phoenix, comes back as nothing more as a Greater lich?” I couldn’t do any more and brought out laughing. “In your dreams!”

With a flick of my finger, all the magical lances above me vibrated before they flashed through the air toward the party. Helena and Alessa also took this chance to rush forward along with several hundred undead of various types. It was a force that not just any adventuring party would be able to defeat. They would really have to be the best of the best.

As I expected, the frontline members were able to dodge or block the spells with a fair amount of success. One of the defenders did get blasted across the street into an adjacent building. Two of the men went straight for Alessa, meaning they must be the two she encountered while out scouting. Rachel used her rapier to deflect the lances with precise strikes. She really was skilled.

“But is that all?” I mumbled with a sigh, my earlier anger at being out maneuvered fading somewhat. When I thought about it, the avatar was still better than this. I tapped into my newest subset of magic and started pulling the miasma that the undead were constantly putting off into myself. “Esoteric Wrath!” A sphere of darkness formed around me that then sank into all the nearby undead. They began to glow black with their eyes shining a hellish green color. Roars sounded out as they went even more berserk than normal.

Personally, I felt my own physical power rise by several levels. I drew Promise and took out Delha from my pocket dimension. It might be overkill, but I wasn’t about to underestimate these people again. I glanced around then found a defender that was being pressed by five undead.

“As they start with the weakest link!”

Channeling some mana, I appeared directly behind the man and brought Promise around with a sweep. The man stopped moving as his spine was severed with a large spray of blood. If I could, I wanted to keep them alive to conduct a few necromantic experiments. He managed to turn his head to look at me in horror. “Don’t worry. I’ll fix you up in a few.”

I motioned for the undead to take him away. With the tidal wave of undead, only a few of the enemy party had managed to stay together. Alessa was dealing with a scout type and a large brute of a man. She appeared to have a grudge, so I let her be for the time. Helena was fighting three individuals and looked bored out of her mind.

As for Rachel, she was grouped with four in the center of the battlefield. She was sending glares at me, but with the undead press, she wasn’t able to get closer. I grinned and turned to another man that was cut off by himself. A barrier of flames kept the undead at bay. Fire was the main weakness after holy after all. It was a good strategy.

A few meters from him was a woman that was managing to stay ahead of the undead even in their frenzied state. However, it looked like she lacked the means to deliver a decisive blow. She was staying ahead, but that was it.

“Disappointing,” I said with a sigh then teleported. I brought Delha around and sent the woman flying halfway down the street where she flipped end over end until she came to a stop in a bleeding mess of a pile. Most if not all of her bones had to be broken as I failed to hold back.

I didn’t even bother wasting mana on the mage. I walked slowly and deliberately until I was right in front of him. “You might as well surrender,” I commented tapping Promise on my shoulder.

“Never! Monster.”

“Yes. Well. You know what they say, be the best at whatever you are,” I replied before thrusting with Delha. The spear ate the flames as if it was snack before puncturing through the man’s stomach. The wound flashed as flames ate at his flesh and the man screamed. I pulled back and turned to the leader’s group. They had been actually dealing with the undead the entire time and I hoped they would give me a challenge.

Alessa

I rushed straight at Deldrach and Husskan. I knew the woman was responsible for the death of several of my Familia, but they had to have been the ones to track them down. The smug elf seemed like the type to hunt them down to hurt me. He might not have known I was the master, but he would have figured that we were part of the same group.

I growled at the undead to keep their hands off the two when I felt a burst of energy. It looked like Oberon’s spell affected me as well. I wasn’t going to argue, these two were strong. I channeled my mana and completely covered my body in the blood ice.

“We meet again. Did you like my present?” Deldrach asked with a grin.

“There are no trees here for you to run to elf. I’m going to pull your intensintes from your mouth.”

“Scary. Remember, you didn’t exactly win last time.”

“We’ll see.” I growled before kicking off the ground. Husskan stepped in the way and intercepted my strike. I took some pleasure in the fact that my blow managed to push him back several paces. I screamed letting my mana rage and the air around us started to freeze. Much like last time a blizzard began to form around us.

I jumped into the air then fell straight down to strike the ground. Large spikes formed in a circle around me. I also channeled mana into creating magic missiles with an ice variant. That gave me more control and much greater power when they struck as the mana part would explode on impact. I sent them out toward the spots that the stone spikes suffered damage and grinned when I felt the spell impact.

“Damn. She was holding back last time!” Deldrach shouted angrily. I almost regerted not being able to see his expression right now. I didn’t want to use all my skills before since I didn’t know who was watching. These people weren’t leaving here today, Oberon was going to see to that.

When I sensed some blood enter the air, I willed my mana to connect to it and traced it back to its source. I sensed a heart nearly the same size as my head that was pumping blood rapidly. The heart must belong to Husskan. I tried to snake my mana connection into the heart but, his own aura and mana blocked it. The most I did was cause him to suffer a muscle spasm.

I needed something to reinforce my mana to bypass it. A dagger slashed against my arm as I managed to dodge the blow that was aimed for my neck. I kicked out, but the stupid elf was able to dodge away back into the storm. I sent several icicles in his direction, but he’d already moved away.

This continued for the next couple seconds as we traded blows, none of us managing to score anything near lethal. My wounds were healing almost instantly, but they were still making a dent to my overall strength. My reach wasn’t long enough to counter Deldrach’s speed, and I lacked the pivotal strength to get through Husskan’s muscle. I thought about retreating, but the thought of giving up just because my level was lower than theirs wrinkled my nose.

“If I lack it, I just need to make it!” I shouted as I concentrated. There were plenty of monsters that were both fast and strong. If my dark phoenix form was a flying magical fortress, I needed something that could hold it’s own in a straight up fight and match that annoying elf’s speed.

That thought fueled me as I concentrated on forcing the transformation magic to work. It took my rage at my mother leaving to cause the change last time. I was plenty anger that some my Familia had died. The rage took over and all the mana I had expended to maintain the storm around me was sucked back into my body. All the blood ice melted as I absorbed every drop instantly.

Husskan and Deldrach took it as a sign that I was weakening, and both charged into to deliver a lethal blow. A black tail came from behind me and struck them with a slash that was faster than the mortal eye could track. My point of sight rose several meters into the air as I started to tower over them.

I roared as some of my conscious mind fled me. All I wanted to do was feast on their flesh. I sucked in a deep breath and expelled in their direction, a cone of ice forming instantly wherever my breath touched. Deldrach managed to dodge in time, but Husskan was too slow. I slithered forward and wrapped around his body, exerting all my new strength to crush every done in his body.

Deldrach leapt on my back and ran toward my head, and I twisted completely around baring my fangs. Even though he continually swiped at my body as he ran, his blades failed to penetrate my scales. With another roar, a vortex formed in my mouth before a blast of black water washed over my back taking Deldrach with it. His screams of pain delighted me to no end. Looking, his steaming body was red and blistered from the poison.

I ignored him and turned to my other captive. The vampire in me screamed for his blood, my transformation still needing more. I crushed even further until I was sure everything was broken. Nearing him with my mouth, I found that I could almost put the entire man inside my jaws. I wanted to make him suffer, thus I needed to transform him.

Snapping out of the transformation, the large man fell to the ground in a heap. Back in my full mind, I realized I had just become some sort of snake monster. Not that I was complaining, but I worried about my lack of mental awareness while in the form. Hopefully, with practice as Helena said when I transformed, I would keep my mental abilities a bit more.

I put that aside for the moment and kneeled in front of Husskan who was breathing heavily. Licking my lips, I sank my teeth into his neck and started drinking to my fill. If there was one thing I was sure of, it was that the man had plenty of blood for me to drain.
