Revenge of the Sorcerer King 2 - 13

Hey Guys!

Chapter 13

Alessa

I checked on the other women while I dropped Jade off. They appeared to be handling everything well enough. I didn’t fail to notice there were a couple of new hole in the walls. I would have to make sure Zriq didn’t see this place until the castle could automatically repair them.

“I’ll come get you when its time for the dungeon dive later.”

“Yes, mistress.” They all said with a bow. Jade looked like she wanted to say something but kept quiet. I waited for a few more seconds before I decided she wasn’t going to say anything. I nodded to them and left.

Back in the hallway, I leaned against the wall. I had a few hours to kill before I needed to meet up with Oberon and the others. Unfortunately, the sun was blaring outside and I didn’t particular feel like going out in it. I heard a commotion from down the hall and decided it was a good way to pass the time.

I eventually made it to a large ballroom. It was currently packed full with statues of people frozen in all states of terror. It was mostly goblin, with a couple dozen humans mixed in. I even found an elf placed off to the side. I walked from statue to statue imagining what story they might have.

A roar pulled my attention to the courtyard. Two half dead giant lizards that had their eyes gouged out were chained. The goblins were treating the wounds while collecting the blood. While my mouth did start to water from the scent of the blood lingering in the air, I had full control over myself.

I was wondering what Oberon was up to now when I felt a hand grab my shoulder. Jerking to the side while bringing my fist around, I punched out without looking. A small boom resounded out then I saw that Oberon had blocked my fist. I coughed nervously as I pulled my hand back. “Whoops.” It wasn’t my fault. Since becoming a vampire, I could usually detect stuff moving within a kilometer let alone right behind me.

Oberon laughed while he dusted his hand off. “Sorry. I saw you staring at the courtyard and tested an advanced silence spell. If it worked on you then it will definitely work on Helena,” Oberon said as he gained a sinister grin. I could only imagine what he planned to do to her if he managed to sneak up on her.

“I would be careful. She is still I don’t know how many levels higher than both of us. This whole conquering the world thing might end rather quickly if you press her in the wrong nerve.”

“Thank you, child, for worrying about me. I have it covered trust me,” Oberon said patting my head.

I smacked the hand off then pointed at the giant lizard. “What’s going on out there?”

“Basilisks. We need fresh blood less than twenty-four hours old to revive the statues in here. I am interested in what we have.”

“I think I’ll stay in here. I don’t feel like being turned into stone,” I mumbled moving further into the shadows.

Oberon laughed. “I already made sure that wouldn’t happen.”

We watched the goblins work for a few minutes before we moved back into the ballroom. “Which ones do you want to awaken first?” I asked looking over the close to three hundred statues.

“I had them set to the side.”

He led me over to a spot at the front of the gathering. The elf, a few humans, and what looked like a dragonkin were placed slightly off from the others. I had never seen an elf before or a dragonkin for that matter so I was excited to find out what they were like.

Oberon stood in front of the dragonkin with his chin in his hand. “I can’t help but feel like this one is familiar.”

“Maybe someone you knew back in the day?” I asked jokingly.

“It could be. A frozen person could easily last a thousand years if the basilisk didn’t drain them all at once, even more so for a non-human like a dragonkin.”

“What? Really!?” I exclaimed and moved over to look at the dragonkin. While he was all grey from being stone, I felt like he had strong features even for a dragonkin. Large wings were curled up against his back, but if I measured them right, I thought they might come to ten or fifteen meters fully extended. Two long horns extended close to half a meter from his head.

“I guess there’s only one way to find out,” Oberon said as he waved one of the goblins forward.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? What if he is higher level than us and has a hatred for the undead?” I asked backing a few meters away.

“I suppose that is a decent worry.” Oberon waved his hand and magic sigils formed around him. Chains formed from magic wrapped around the dragonkin. After that he stood there and I wondered what he was doing until I saw Vaunn, Khaar, and Grodo walk in. They were the highest level of everything in the desert.

“I do feel much safer now,” I said moving behind Vaunn and peeking out from behind her.

Oberon

I chuckled at Alessa’s actions before turning back to the Dragonkin. I waved the goblins forward and they poured the bucket of blood over the statue. I wasn’t disappointed when cracks started to form rapidly over the surface. This person’s life force was still very strong.

With a shattering boom, fragments of stone exploded as the dragonkin reverted back to normal. He was of the black dragonflight. Black scales covered his body as some poison miasma radiated slowly around him. Likely with the sudden reversal, he couldn’t control it at the moment. I waved Alessa back as she could still be affected by it.

The dragonkin collapsed to the ground as the mana around him stabilized. I narrowed my eyes when I felt something familiar about him but couldn’t quite place it. His effects, froze in the stone along with him, didn’t survive the un-petrification process and crumbled to dust around him.

I waited for several minutes as the man grew more comfortable and returned to himself. Depending on a person’s mental strength they might end up conscious the entire time they were frozen. That was a lot for a flesh and blood brain to accumulate. I wouldn’t blame him is he went insane.

“Are you done adjusting?” I asked after close to an hour had gone by.

“Jad kuye ajodi soe fuoe afhoe.” He said in dragon. I rubbed my temples and cast a translation spell. I was just a bit rust on the language and didn’t want to risk mistranslating.

“Can you say that again?”

“I am sore as a whore after the mines payday,” he said.

“Yes, that is to be expected. Can you control your poison? You’re going to melt yourself into the dungeons soon.”

“Give me a minute. Been trapped in that fucking hole for over eight hundred years. I’ve had to release the gas for five of that.”

“What is he saying?” Alessa called from her spot close to thirty meters away.

“I’ll tell you later,” I called back.

After another five or ten minutes, the dragonkin finally breathed in and all the purple poison floating around rushed back towards him. He took a deep breath and released a much smaller plume of poison. He opened his eyes and went to jump back as he saw me only to fall backward as he couldn’t control his limbs as well yet.

“Fucking undead!”

“Yes? And the person that saved you from your eternal prison. I would show some appreciation,” I said crossing my arms.

“Really? An undead that had a consciousness. I’m not fucking buying it,” he said shaking his head. I felt like he would have gotten into a defensive position if he could move.

“How you just tell me why you were in that cave? From what I saw you were alone as none of the other statues had matching insignias.”

The dragonkin gave me the stink eye before he sighed. “I was looking for my Great grandfather’s city. It was rumored to have sunk beneath the ground somewhere in the area that you likely found me. It was just my luck to run into a basilisk nest that had just birthed a new Alpha.”

“Your great grandfather!?” Alessa shouted from behind Vaunn. I turned my glare at her and she clamped her hand over her mouth.

“I’d rather not mention his name. I’m not sure how much time has passed but my family is being hunted they’ve already killed my mother and father.” The dragonkin made a strained face and slammed his hand on the ground adding even more damage to the already poison damaged floor.

“What is your name?” I asked as memories flooded into my head. A black dragon that had been sent to be my wife by the Dragon flights. They thought I won’t notice the insult of giving a poison-based dragon to a mortal to wed, but I had accepted her and devised several magic so that she could fulfill her duty. I couldn’t remember if there had been any love involved, but I do remember getting one up on the flights when I presented them with a son.

The man gave me a toothy grin. “Do you want my dragon name or my mortal name?”

“Dragon to be honest. We’ll get to your mortal name afterward,” I replied moving closer to look at the man’s eyes.

He appeared surprised but recovered quickly. “I am Irgire, The Hidden Night. Heir to the World!” He gained strength as he spoke and pound a fist on his chest when he finished causing a boom to resound through the room.

“You said your father is dead. How sure are you?” I asked quietly despite myself.

“As sure as I saw the spear go through his eye! I will never forgive those monsters for what they did! Calling themselves the saviors of the planes! How does killing someone that rarely fought righteous!”

I nodded at his statement then moved back. “Alessa! Come meet your half cousin,” I called to the girl that was still hiding slightly behind Vaunn. Not that I blamed her. Irgire was releasing poison as his anger grew. “I thought I sensed something familiar about him. He has his father’s eyes.”

“How do you know my father, undead!? And what do you mean half cousin?!”

“Are you sure its safe? I really don’t want my face melted off,” Alessa said as she moved out from behind Vaunn.

“Yes,” I said to Alessa then turned back to Irgire. “And because he was my son before he was your father.”

Irgire had been attempting to rise to his feet but fell back with wide eyes. “Oberon, The Sorcerer King?”

“That’s right. Back in the… well not quite flesh, but I am back. And this is Alessa, who, as fates would have it, was brought to my side. She is from one of my human wives, though a few centuries down the line.”

“Hi!” Alessa called with a wave.

“I think…” I looked at him with a tilted head as I waited. “I think I’m going to faint.” Sure enough, he fell forward.

“I’m getting déjà vu.”

“I’m pretty sure anyone that is from your family and hears you tell them who you are is going to pass out,” Alessa said moving forward and placing a hand on Irgire’s head. “He’s got a fever.”

“Dragonkin run out, but better to be safe than sorry,” I said. “Gobluke. Would you take him to a separate wing? If you need directions, have Zriq direct you. He knows the castle better than I do at this point. Gobluke nodded and ordered some of his soldiers over to help move the dragonkin. He was lighter than when he was a statue, but still weighed a few hundred kilograms. Dragon parts were just heavier.

“After that, the rest of the statues are probably going to be a let down,” Alessa said looking at the elf statue.

“Maybe. Of course, we might have some long-lost relatives in here that came seeking the city like Irgire did.”

“I heard it sank the day you were betrayed. Is that true?”

“Sadly, I don’t know. I was sort of dead at the time,” I replied with a shrug.

“Good point.”
