Chapter 10
Oberon
The others were already in the throne room when I arrived. Even though if had barely been two months since my return to this world, I had managed to bring a decent assortment of people to my side. I had Alessa to mainly thank for that. Many of these people were only here for here such as Helena and Sarius.
I may have looked into my remaining family eventually when I revived, but I doubted it would have been nearly as soon. Without meeting Alessa, I wouldn’t have known they were hunted after all. Either way, I thought it was a hand of the fates to place her by my side as soon as I awoke.
Moving past everyone, I took my place on the throne. “Alessa tells me she may have found the dungeon but that it is sealed by some strong magic. Assuming there is not some restraint that keeps us from opening the seal, I want us all to level as quickly as possible.”
“I won’t be much help in the beginning levels so I’ll just sit those out until you’re all deeper. My high level would cause the experience to be distributed awkwardly,” Helena said from her perch on stairs. She was using a file on her nails.
“Very well. The main party will consist of me, Alessa, Sarius, the few women that Alessa makes into vampires, Ted, and Yunio. The undead have pulled up a large amount of ore from the mines. We can make some weapons and armor for the ones that need some equipment. It will be made by undead thus it won’t be the best but will do.”
“Sounds good. No offense Vaunn, but I need to get used to armor that doesn’t help me move during combat,” Alessa said patting the living armor’s arm.
“Speaking of golems, I want to start repairing the golem network. Thankfully, it is mainly mana stones that we need to collect.”
We discussed the dungeon dive a bit more before they left to accomplish their individual tasks. We planned to head out the next night as Alessa has to change some of the women to vampires, while the undead smiths needed to craft some gear for them all. I looked down and decided I needed some armor as well. The simple robe I was wearing didn’t do me justice.
“Should have looted the damn place while we were burning it down,” I mumbled to myself as I thought about the issue.
I concentrated on the shadow element and formed a robe out of the mana. It would protect me from most things up to a certain level and was magic resistant short of light mana. Sadly, it was a pale comparison of what I could truly make. Still the black robe made of moving shadows did look good on me.
Breathing in deeply, I pulled the miasma inside my body. I was gaining experience like I was in the miasma outside, but whether it was because I was the source of this miasma or some other hidden mechanism, I only gained half an experience point an hour while being in it. Not much but it would eventually add up.
I checked the time and saw the sun was about to set. I cracked my knuckles and got up. “Come Yunio. We’re heading out for a bit,” I ordered the wraith. She had been sulking in the corner of the throne room since we got back. I wasn’t quite sure how her mind worked now, but I needed to find out how useful she was going to be going forward.
Heading for the gate, I found the force of Sun-touched goblins waiting for me at the gates like I had requested. Gobluke stood at the front like a general. He rode a large lizard and looked rather commanding in his new form.
“Master. Sixty goblins ready for your orders.”
“Sixty, why the extra ten?” I asked looking the group over. They looked completely different from the yellow goblins they were this morning. The largest thing was that they had bathed. That already made an improvement as I didn’t have to turn my sense of smell off.
“When I was choosing the members, there was just too many that wanted to thank you for freeing them of their curses. I can send them away.”
“No. I had stated fifty as more of a random number. An extra ten aren’t going to hurt anything.”
“Then your orders?”
“This force will be one of the few that get to dive the dungeon we located today. Still while you were transformed to better forms, it would be dangerous for you to venture into a dungeon without a bit of practice. We’re going to hunt nearby monsters.”
“If that is the case can we kill the pack of basilisks that inhabit the west part of the desert. Too many of our clan have fallen victim to the beasts’ petrifying glare.”
A basilisk would be a decent target for some practice. I personally didn’t have anything to worry about as I was an undead. Plus, if the statues of the goblins still remained we could use the venom of the slain basilisks to return them to flesh effectively adding to our forces.
“Very well. That sounds like a good idea. I wanted to see the ocean any ways.”
“Then your mount master,” Gobluke said as another goblin pulled a lizard over for me. Of course, the thing started to freak when I grabbed the reigns. While it could tolerate the presence of the undead near it, the idea of one riding it was a no go.
“Any of these creatures die recently?”
“No. But, one of the horse you brought from the city did. We were going to give it to the crypt later tonight after we got all the meat from it.”
“Bring it here.”
Gobluke turned to his soldiers and ordered a some of them to fetch the corpse. We only had to wait a few minutes when they returned with a cart laden with a half-butchered horse corpse. They unloaded it in front of me.
I placed my hand on the corpse and concentrated as I started pumping necromantic energy into the creature. I infused some of my other mana into the creature as well. A purely undead horse was lacking for a lich lord. I tried to give it as much fire resistant as possible, but after a few minutes, I felt I might have gone too far.
Flames grew from its hooves. The creature’s eyes opened and black and green flames leapt from its eyes. It stood and looked at me. I’d made sure it was more of a zombie than a skeleton, so that I would actually have something to ride. One of the goblins handed over the saddle that came with the creature.
“Very impressive master,” Gobluke commented as I pulled myself up into the saddle. Smoke blew from the horse’s nostrils as it breathed an instinct left over from its life no doubt.
I drew promise and looked back to the gathered goblins. “Come. Let’s hunt!” I shouted thrusting the sword into the air. I turned the horse and made for the west. Gobluke right behind me on his lizard.
Alessa
I walked into the room with a small amount of worry in my chest. Worried that the women would all outright refuse and Oberon would force them via other methods. While I was okay with that for most of the women, there were a few that I had grown close to during their time here.
I pushed the door open and everyone came to a stop as they saw me enter the room. Jade came up to me first with a smile on her face like always. “Mistress Alessa. What is the matter?”
I gave her a strained smile then turned to address everyone in the room. “Listen up. I am going to turn everyone here into a vampire and you’ll join my Familia. It is either that or join as Servants. As Vampires you will crave blood for the rest of your lives, but you will have the power that comes with it. As servants, you will remain mostly human but most of your freewill will be stripped from you. You don’t have to decide tonight, but I need an answer within a day.”
“I will become a vampire.”
I looked with widened eyes at Jade who had spoken up as soon as I closed my mouth. She had a determined look that said she wasn’t going to change her mind.
“I will become a vampire!” Friea, another of the women I had become close to, shouted as well. That caused a cascade as all, but one person said they would become a vampire.
The woman in question stood up and walked over. “I want to become a lich like master Oberon.”
“A lich!?” I shouted despite myself.
She gestured to all the women present. “I don’t know about them, but I have had enough sex thanks to the animals that call themselves nobles to last several lifetimes. I know that becoming a vampire would give me access to a great power, but I want to follow the one that conquered the planet. I wanted to die for the longest time before you saved me. If I have to give up my humanity then I want something completely off the beaten path.”
“I… see. I’ll have to discuss it with Oberon.”
“Of course. I’ll be here. The name is Shae” she said with a smirk before she walked back over to her bed. The other women, myself included, gave her a range of looks.
I cleared my throat and turned back to the others. “I can only change three people a night. Jade will be first. Who else wants to go first?”
The two that volunteered first stepped forward. I nodded and motioned for them to follow me. I led them down to the dungeons where I found Ted working on a corpse. “Lady Alessa. Is it time already?”
“Yeah. I would recommend leaving so you don’t become a chew toy.”
“I will take you up on that. Do try not to kill them all. We have a lot of questions we’re still asking.”
“I’m going to do my best to make them stop but accidents happen.”
“Of course. Well then,” Ted said then bowed as he walked away from my group heading back up into the castle.
“Alright. I will be draining you of all your blood then giving you some of mine. You will enter a blood frenzy. If you lose yourselves, do not worry. Oberon found a way to save your mind, just keep in mind that… it hurts.”
Jade stepped forward and kneeled in front of me. “We understand the process will be difficult, but we’ve been talking about this since we arrived. We knew that we wouldn’t be able to go back to our original lives. Many of us didn’t want to in the first place. Trust me, we’re all ready to leave our humanity behind.” The other two women joined her in kneeling as she talked.
I placed a hand on Jade’s shoulder and pulled her up. “I can see you are all serious about this. I’ll go ahead and do you first.” I turned to the other two. “You two please go into that room and wait until I call for you. Trust me with I say do not leave until I say it is safe. I would hate for Jade’s first kill as a vampire to be one of you.”
“Yes, my lady.” They said before they backed into the room and bolted the door.
I moved closer to Jade and moved her hair back. She was a real beauty even I as a woman can say that. She had beautiful golden blonde hair. Her face while still having a bit of a child’s softness, was starting to possess a woman’s sharpness, likely from the experiences from before we rescued her then adding the harsh journey to Haven.
She was a bit taller than me, and her womanly features were starting to blossom as a man would say. Her chest was already three times the size of mine. Though, as I would say to anyone that asked, I was malnourished growing up so it wasn’t my fault. Certainly, it wasn’t my bloodline, my mother was huge.
“Are you just going to stare at me all night?” Jade asked with a bit of a blush.
I chuckled then moved my mouth to her neck. “To be fair you are quite a looker.” I pulled in a sniff of her skin which smelled more delicious than any food I could remember from when I was mortal. She shuddered as I placed a hand on her neck and her waist. I found I was enjoying playing with her more than I expected I would.
“Thanks for the meal,” I mumbled as I bit down. It was the best blood I had tasted since becoming a vampire. It only grew more enjoyable as she moaned in pleasure from my bite. I just had to remember to stop before I drained her completely. I closed my eyes and dug in.
