Revenge of the Sorcerer King 2 - 31

Good Evening everyone! Sorry for not posting yesterday. I'm going to be completely honest with yall, I've sort of hit a slump on Dungeon Robotics. Don't worry, I'll get through it, as it mainly involves the pacing for the story. For instants, it has been a good two books since any dungeon diving has been done. While I"ve mostly accepted that this story no longer has dungeon diving parts, I still want to find a way to include his main dungeon into the story. I mean otherwise I'll never talk about it as the valley is basically a heavily guard fortress now. Anyway, sorry for that. Here is the chapter.

Chapter 31

Alessa

Helena stared at me for a few seconds while I wondered if I’d asked something totally out there. She opened and closed her fan a few times but didn’t say anything. Finally, she took a breath and closed the fan one last time with a loud snap.

“Your question is very dangerous. Many people have wondered the same thing since the Hero’s help in stabilizing our way. With the use of levels, is it possible to finally ascend to godhood.”

“AIGO is a new god, right? How did he… she? Is it a god or goddess?”

“Exactly. No one knows. There is no temple, no cult, no following. One day it just appeared.”

“I would assume it’s incredibly difficult no matter what who’s asking.”

Helena looked like she was about to say something when a large blast shook the wall. We jerked around to see that the right side of the enemy force had regrouped and was launching a two-pronged attack on the city and Oberon’s undead that were in the middle of the enemy force.

The enemy didn’t appear to be concerned about their mana usage. They were throwing every spell at their disposal at the wall and undead. To their benefit, it was actually working as we could see Oberon’s undead were quickly being decimated even as he used his necromancy to create more.

“It’s a matter of attrition. Whoever runs out first,” Helena commented as we watched.

“Well we have no reason to sit back and just watch.” I jumped into the air not worried about making myself a target. Using air mana, I amplified my voice so it would travel the length of the wall. “All forces! Attack at will!”

The undead as one, raised the bows they had been equipped with and took aim. The projectiles flew like a solid wall in their own right, sailing through the air and hammering into the enemy soldiers. Screams went up from the injured, while the undead didn’t hesitate and pulled back for a second wave.

Three lightning bolts arced through the air at me before I dodged away. Our undead mages responded in kind, by sending their own spells into the enemy. Explosions killing dozens of soldiers traced the front of the enemy lines.

“I need to get in on that,” Helena said as she hopped on top of the battlement. Pointing her hand seemingly at random she channeled her mana and there was an arc of lightning from the sky that struck the large concentration of soldiers. A moment later, a large explosion that caused a dome of flames encompassed the hundred or so meters worth of area.

Soon three more explosion followed before a mage managed to counter her causing her spell to explode in midair. The few catapults they brought began to fire at the city, managing to damage the walls as chunks were blasted free by the magically enhanced boulders that were flung. They quickly corrected their aim with each shot being their collective fire closer to the gate.

Helena dusted her hands off as another of her explosion spells was countered. I landed next to her. “How many do you think we’ve managed to kill?”

“Probably around two thousand.”

“Not as many as I’d hoped.”

We looked over to the ring wing of the enemy forces and found that Oberon’s force had almost been decimated by this point. No matter how the undead were, they were surrounded and for each soldier they killed more took their place. I was being to wonder how he would get out when there was a burst of mana next to me, and Oberon appeared with the reverent and what looked like an undead version of Derrick.

“Hey ladies! Did you miss me?” He asked as he dropped the two undead.

“Did you manage to do any real damage?”

Oberon grinned then snapped his fingers. A well armored man appeared from the shadows. He had suffered several wounds as there were stab and slash wounds all over his armor. “Meet General Herald, or rather Death Knight Herald.” The death knight kneeled to Oberon as black blood leaked from a few of his wounds. “Plus, or minus two thousand soldiers. Only manage to petrify around three hundred, sadly.”

“What now? Battle of attrition?” Helena asked looking at the army that was regrouping as the last of the undead were finished off in the center of their force. We had plans but timing was important before showing our cards.

Oberon turned to the battlefield. Oberon’s barriers and wards were holding back the worst of the damaging spells that were being hurled at the city, but they wouldn’t last forever. While the undead on the walls were going damage, it was slowly being reduced by the enemy mages, as well as defensive soldiers that were better skilled with their shields taking the front.

A light to one side of the enemy drew our attention. I could feel the mana in the air start to sting. It reminded me of when I was in the presence of Yuin. What sort of spell could they be working to cause such a large disturbance.

“Well, that’s not good,” Oberon said looking at the light.

“What is it?”

“I think I pissed off the priests of Yuin a bit too much. One is trying to manifest the deity,” he replied rubbing the back of his head.

Helena hopped down and moved next to us. “What should we do? Even with Siateth protecting the undead from the normal spells, I doubt he will protect them against her avatar.”

Oberon looked thoughtful as he observed the battlefield. “No. We need to strike before they regroup completely around the remaining general. Especially, since if they are summoning her avatar into this. I’ll show them I don’t fear the goddess. Lenora!” The fairy materialized as soon as her name was called.

“Yes, my king?”

“Does this qualify as a critical level threat?”

She looked over the battle and the avatar calling then our own forces. “Barely. You may summon a third of the core forces.”

“More than enough.” He looked at each of us in turn. “I’ll take Lenora and Helena to the gate. I will lower the protection to lure them in. I want you to take your vampires around the rear and strike with all the fury of a storm. Crush them as they are ground to a paste by us in the front lines.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“Irgire. You go with who you want. Your abilities are good no matter where they’re put to us.”

“Then I will go with the girl. I feel like she will need them more than you, Lord Oberon.”

Oberon nodded. “Then by the time the sun rises above the darkness, we’ll have killed all these invaders.”

Oberon

We dispersed with my group heading for the gate. While we walked, I mentally connected to the core’s workings and used the summon defense skill. Two dozen fairies materialized around me. All well-armored and heavily armed. Each as deadly as the last.

“You take command of them Lenora. Defense is your strong suit.”

“As you command, my king.” She switched to the fairy language and began issuing orders to them. They took flight to the wall. The idea of sieging fairy held walls would have made most armies tremble in the past. I felt sorry for the people that had forgotten so much of the past.

My group quickly made it to the entrance. I could clearly hear the moment that Lenora’s group reached the top of the walls. The ground started to shudder and flashes of light filled the night. Screams and yells could be heard from the enemy as they were ripped apart from the tremendous power presented by the fairies.

“There might not be any left for us when we reach the gates,” Helena said prompting me to laugh at the reality that she might be right.

Less than a minute later we reached the gate to the city. I carefully lowered the protection on it so that the next bombardment would collapse it. Not a moment too soon, the siege weapons released their volley and the magical enhanced boulders crushed their way through the city gate. “Make every step into my city cost them,” I shouted to the gathered undead and Goblins.

The goblins cheered while the undead gave moans and groans. I peered through the destroyed gate and saw the personification of Yuin solidify above the heads of the center most location in the enemy ranks. A wave of white light washed over them which revitalized and gave them a new level of strength.

“If I die, I’m going to haunt you in the underworld.”

“Considering our choice of deity, that might be a very real possibility. I am glad to hear you’ve warmed up to me enough to want to spend eternity with me.”

“I’ll make sure Lord Siateth lets me be your personal torturer.”

“Sounds like fun. Seeing as we’ve both died once already. Let’s not make it a habit.”

The swarming soldiers reached the gate at that point, crossing the hundred meters in seconds. Whatever holy juice Yuin was giving them was seriously potent. I couldn’t pass up such easy targets. Pointing Promise, I sent a barrage of magic missiles and fireballs into the mass of bodies.

They might have been buffed up by the holy magic, but my mastered spells were more than a match for it. My magic missiles ripped through the front wave and kept going managing to priece at least ten people each. My fireballs were just as deadly, blasting dozens of people into pieces with each impact.

Single-handedly, I brought the rushing horde to a stop directly in front of the gates. Mana rippled around me as I kept sending spells. Icicles that frozen people solid, lightning that forked between three or four dozen people before it lost it charge, areas where the ground rose up and swallowed people whole. I made sure that every step forward was coated with blood.

A barrier of light washed over the soldiers and formed a gate of light in place of the gate that had been ruined. The enemy had no trouble rushing through it, but my spells fizzled to motes of mana when they struck it. It was a strong anti-magic spell. I looked past the soldiers that were running up the street to a woman that blazed white as tears of blood leaked from the corners of her eyes.

I placed my blade on my shoulder. “I wonder what kind of undead I could make from the body of an avatar,” I said looking the woman over. She had striking blonde hair and holy mana radiated from around her. A crown of white metal, that blazed almost brighter than her floated just above her head.

“Please tell me you’re joking!”

“Maybe. You never know until you try!” I said bringing my sword down on a soldier that had ran up like a berserker. Looking closer, they had all lost their sanity from the looks of it. That still didn’t change the fact that their weapons glowed with holy light and their armor clearly had holy runes emblazoned over them.

“Undead assist the Goblins! Goblins force! Front!” I ordered as I cut down another soldier. Promise drinking in the holy mana faster than any mana it’d drunk so far. Goblins with large shields moved forward and formed a wall along the street. Undead with polearms and spears began to stab through the gaps at anyone that got too close.

Soon, blood from the enemy started to flow as bodies started to pile up. That didn’t mean we were without causalities. Goblins were dying for every five of the enemy we managed to cut down. Their orangish blood mixing with the red blood of the enemy. As the bodies piled, it started giving the enemy higher ground so we began retreating slowly.

We were about two hundred meters from the second wall, when the Yuin avatar finally entered the city. I was beginning to wonder if she was going to let her pawns do all the work. I quickly sent a message via Sending.

“Thragrami. She’s in the city. With the unexpected guest out of the way, feel free to have fun.”

“Ye got it, boss!” a much more crackling sending responded.

Turning back to the ironically mindless horde in front of me, I leapt back to create some distance from the front line. A goblin quickly taking my place. Helena appeared as soon as I landed though she was covered from head to toe in blood. “Get tired?” she asked licking her hands which were remarkably clean.

“You need a bath.”

“I think it’s a nice look, one that I’ve worn more than I can count,” she replied doing a small twirl that sent blood spattering around us.

“Next phase of the plan. I didn’t expect and avatar, but even a goddess can only manifest for a certain amount of time before the host simply dies.”

I bent down and placed a hand on the ground. The ruined remains of the city that still made up this district started to rumble. A few seconds later, all the buildings on either side of the main street collapsed as large tunnels burst open. Armor reminiscent to the ones back in the dungeon started to pour out in the rear of the enemy lines.

In a matter of seconds, the avatar was cut off from reinforcements outside the gate as close to fifty of the magical armors wedged their way into blocking the street. Undead started to spill out after that using the armor as a protective wall while they slaughtered anything that got close to them.

Large explosions that dwarfed the ones from the Fairies soon followed as large domes of flames could be seen from over the walls. Truly, gaining that dwarf was a hallmark success. I would need to give him a reward after this.

“Sorry, Boss. Magic Cannons failed to activate.”

“Then what’s causing the explosions?”

I heard an answer but I couldn’t focus on it, as the Yuin avatar suddenly tore through her allies and enemies alike aiming directly for me. Helena attempted to block the incoming attack by digging in with her giant shield only to be knocked aside with incredible force. She wielded a giant longsword that she easily controlled with a single hand.

I just barely got Promise up in time to receive her strike. That didn’t stop me from being sent flying through the gate behind me. Even moving at the speed I was from her strike, she was keeping pace with me.

“Damn Siateth and his games! He has death why does he continue to trespass into my dominion. Undead are an abomination!” She brought her sword down and I parried with Promise. I was shot straight down and formed a decent crater when I impacted.

“Yo, long time no see Lady Yuin. Too bad it’s on such violent terms.”

Yuin gave a snort. “King Oberon. I noticed you the moment you graced my temple. You should have stayed dead. Even if there is death in the world. It pales in comparison to when you were alive. I tried to look at the big picture the first time as you sought to unite the world. I knew it was a fools errand, we all did. I won’t be so naive this time.”

I spit in response to what I just heard. “Maybe if you guys had done a little better work on those angels bastards. I might have succeeded.”

“The angels were much more suited to rule than some human. You godless cretins aren’t even part of this world. Now you over run it like rats!”

That was the first I heard that tidbit of information. No… I knew that. Something in the back of my mind knew what she just told me. I poured all my mana into reinforcing my body. I used every spell I had at my access to strengthen my body to it limits which as undead, were quite high.

I shot out of the hole aiming for her. Her avatar was a manifestation of the goddess herself, thus was easily able to respond. Sparks flew as Promise ground against her blade. “Then I should thank Siateth. For making me part of this world.” I started to work her blade. As long as I was attacking, she wasn’t.

I just needed to keep her occupied until her host expires. Which judging from the slowly fading life flame I could see, wasn’t too much longer. “Undead are worse! How dare that fool corrupt my beautiful elves!” Her anger mounting, I felt a wave of holy mana streak down from the heavens to slam into the host. The light intensified as her strength grew to even higher levels.

It was taking all I had to just parry the strikes. A decent sized crater had formed around me as she literally drove me into the ground from her blows. I whispered a chant, and several fireballs exploded around us. I used the moment to twist Promise, bringing the blade up around Yuin’s and plunging the blade into her chest.

If it had been any other blade, I doubt it could have pierced the almost solid mana that formed armor around her. Promise, however, drank it up like water. Yuin spat a mouthful of blood but that was it. I was forced to pull Promise free to block the renewed attack from her. She brought her blade around then up and managed to knock me clear of the city with the force behind the strike.

She met me in midair, and with an overhead blow, sent me flying into the grounds in the middle of the battlefield. I didn’t think I could black out as an undead but still my vision started to fade in and out from lack of mana. I stabbed Promise into the ground as I wondered why I hadn’t been finished off.

Looking up, I found a black phoenix sending waves of black flames at the goddess. Mana flowing in from my mana ocean, I regained my strength. I was about to take off into the air when I saw a flash of gold from the south.

“Well. I suppose one surprise wasn’t enough for the night.”
