RSK Chapter 3

Hey Guys here is chapter 3 of Sorcerer King!

Alessa POV~~~~

I awoke with a start, I looked around to find I was in a once nice looking room that would have been fit for royalty. It had most of the required furniture but it looked like it would collapse into dust the moment she touched it. I got up and checked to make sure I still had all my gear. Then the memory of earlier played in my head again. My great, how knows how many, great ancestor was still alive, well maybe not alive.

I got up and looked out the door. I didn’t see any gaurds or anything to stop me from leaving so I moved out into the hallway. The statue next to the door in the hall reached out and grabbed my arm. Sadly, I screamed again.

“Calm… Down…” the statue said brokenly.

I took a deep breath and calmed my heart. This was going to be the death of me. Already, I felt like I had aged a few years since I had arrived here. I still couldn't believe that I had met THE Oberon. When I was younger my mother would say if he hadn't been betrayed our family would most like rule the world. To be fair, he had united the races back when it was a wilder time.

Coming out of my thoughts, I looked at the golem next to me. It looked vaguely female… maybe. It was hard to tell from the way the rocks were held together.

"What do you want?" I asked nervously.

"Master… wants… to see… you."

I gulped then nodded. It let go off my arm then turned down the hallway. I contemplated making a run for it but decided for my overall health that would probably be a bad idea. Even if Oberon was my ancestor, he was some type of undead now.

As we walked down the hallway I marveled at how majestic this would have been centuries ago. Even reduced to the state it was in, it still held a wonder that seemed to say, "I will not bow!" As we got closer to what I assumed was the throne room that I saw before, I noticed that the damage to the hallway was reduced.

The golem pushed a set of double doors open and gestured for me to enter. I did so carefully as I looked around for Oberon. He was still sitting on his throne. There were so many magical runes floating around him that she got dizzy just looking at them.

"I wouldn't stare for too long. Magic runes have been known to cause people to go mad without the proper training," Oberon said without looking at me.

As I quickly looked away, I more fully entered the room then said, "what are you working on?"

"My city. The poor thing. It once had the best mana network known to the races but sitting for over 500 hundred years under the sand has really done a number on it. It once was able to repel a dragon while everyone was sleeping and no one knew until the next morning when the corpse was found by a patrol," Oberon said. I could hear the brag in his voice.

"Really such power?" I asked with a sense of bewilderment.

"Once… but now this world has been thoroughly messed up by some outworlder! Level! Level! Level! Everything requires a fucking level!" Oberon growled.

"Just… just go kill some monsters," I suggested carefully.

"Is it really that simple?" Oberon asked as he paused his hands.

"Well… from my understanding we get experience from everything. From baking bread, to smithing a sword, even having children, but killing monsters is the simplest way."

Oberon tapped his chin with a bony finger then said, "very will!" He stood up, "Zriq, bring up the city map."

The fairy, I paused. Fairy! How could there be a fairy here! I shook my head most like Oberon had removed the curse from him. The fairy waved its hand then a magical image of the ruins of the city as well as the surrounding areas appeared.

There were hundreds of red dots all around the city, some were even moving into the borders slowly. A few, maybe kilometers, away from the city was a relatively large red dot. I wondered it it was a sand worm or something.

"What level are you, child?" Oberon asked.

"Level 12, and my name is Alessa!" I answered. I was nineteen, fully an adult!

"Level 12… is that good or bad, child?" Oberon asked empathizing the child.

"Its… bad. I could never keep a job long enough to get good enough to gain experience and no one would party with me to go hunting monsters," I answered bowing my head.

"Hm, well you're higher level than me," Oberon said with a very toothy grin.

Oberon Pov~~~~~

I smiled at Alessa before I looked over to the golem next to her, "come with us. I want you to protect her while we hunt."

It bowed its head to me.

Alessa blanched, "you want to fight the monsters around here?!" She asked panicked.

"Please don't faint again, and yes I do," I said dismissively.

I walked past her into the hallway. It would take us a good thirty minutes just to get to the entrance as we had to avoid some collapsed areas. Alessa gulped but followed after me. I sighed as I saw my life's work in ruins like this, but I swore I would return it to glory and then some. I glanced down at my body, maybe a bit of magic experimenting fo bring back an at least partially feeling body. A king needs an heir. Well, I looked behind, I guess I technically had one. She must be from one of the harem nobles I had. I shook my head, I never would have created it if not for Lilith saying it would be good for relations.

Roughly an hour later we made it outside. The sun wasn't too bright just yet and thankfully my body didn't have a weakness to sunlight. I mentally recalled where the nearest red bot was and turned towards it. Alessa followed behind like a lost puppy, the golem, Vaunn, followed behind her. Zriq had opted to stay in the throne room.

After another hour of walking we reached what was left of the main walls. They were in better shape than the rest of the castle as they were made to last a siege from several dragons. The mana in them was depleted but I was already working on remedying that.

Through the busted main gate a large scorpion was trying to make its way through. Hm, a Bronze Pounder, not bad for my first opponent since my rebirth. As its name stated it was a bronze color, but this creature really got its name from ingesting tin and copper to make a sort of natural bronze. Instead of a sinter, its tail was able to crush its enemy with several hundred pounds of force.

"That thing is usually around level 30 according to the guild. Out this far it might even be higher!" Alessa whispered quickly.

"Is it…" I commented. Back in my adventurer days i was able to kill this thing with just my sword, not to even mention magic. I drew Promise Bringer and strode forward. The Bronze Pounder was still struggling with the ancient metal gate so it didn't notice me at first but soon it stopped and turned towards me as best it could.

My body had recovered to the point so that I moved much like I did when I first started adventuring. Those had been simpler days before I tried to end the wars, I shook my head at my own foolishness. I let the memories fade and turned my full focus on the monster in front of me.

The scorpion hissed at me then shot one of its pincers forward. It was a bit faster than I recalled but still within manageable limits. I side stepped the pincer then brought Promise down. The trusted blade still kept its edge and sliced clean through the extended limb.

The scorpion hissed in pain as it tried to back away but the gate couldn't take anymore and part of it collapsed blocking the scorpion in. Realizing it had no escape route it turned back to me.

"That's right. A fight to the death," I said with a grin. The green flames that were my eyes burning just a bit brighter.

The scorpion hissed again then readied its tail. Blue blood leaked from its injuries limb, which created a small pool. I also readied Promise as I got into a standard form with the tip pointed at the scorpion.

The scorpion, most likely trying to get the first strike, charged me. The tail shot forward, I managed to jump back just barely avoiding it. The tail impacted the ground, forming a small crater. Dust and dirt flew into the air.

This might have been effective back when I was human but now I was undead. My eyes flared again then my vision shifted so that I could see the life force of the creatures around me. I shot forward, my sword point leading. I felt a moments resistance then the blade sank deep into the scorpion. I kept back letting go of Promise as the scorpion thrashed around. After a few seconds it finally stopped moving, either from blood loss or the stab wound, it didn't matter in the end.

I waved my hand and cleared the air of debris with some simple wind magic. The scorpion laid there, Promise embedded through its body. I had most likely pierced a lung or its heart. I was a little rusty on my scorpion anatomy.

I pulled Promise out of the corpse then flicked the blade to remove the blood. I sensed that the blade had drank some of the scorpion's mana as it felt a bit… more. I placed it back in its scabbard.

"Why did you want me to come? It looks like you got this," Alessa said a little breathless.

"Why of course, I plan on making you kill a few yourself."

Alessa's face grew pale, "I'm good!"

"Nonsense, no member of my family is going to remain at such a low level."

Alessa slid to the ground then hugged the golem's leg as she whimpered a bit.
