Ultimate Guild Chapter 3

Hey Guys! So I haven't really upped anything for this as I only work on it when I'm in a slump but the last few parts on Dungeon Robotics have been... challenging, there was just so many things I had to consider and how the world was proceeding as I liked to let my story grow naturally, well writing a scene with all the main characters in it is surprisingly hard as they all change the flow! So I worked on this a bit just to take my mind off of it for a bit!

Forty-five minutes, 4 levels and 99 Golems later we had just about to finish killing 100 crystal golems. We were currently on the last one, thankfully as I leveled up my marksmanship and my overall level my damage output got much better. When we hit level 5 we were finally able to see that the Golems had 400 HP but if we destroy the core it didn’t matter how much they had left. I was hoping that leveling up would give us actual skills that we could use but nothing as of yet. With a finally shot I destroyed the golem’s core. We touched the quest card to and finished the quest at maximum quantity let's hope the quality is good too.

We made our way back the courtyard, with a variety of drops and loot but currently nowhere to really sell or store it. When we got to a couple hundred meters of the Portal we saw a massive change. There were now streets leading out from the four entrances to the courtyard surrounding the Portal and there were some buildings being constructed in various places. Players were going here and there dropping materials off and running away to get more or do other quests.

“Man we leave for half an hour and a city starts to pop up.” I say to Yui next to me.

“So since there are no per shop NPCs how does it work we have to wait till a player starts it or what?” she asked me.

“I think the territory can put in a certain amount of points to hire the NPC once the building is finished.”

We made our way up the Old Man to turn in our quest. He wasn’t as busy as before but he had more help there were other NPCs around him that seemed to be overseeing different tasks.

“Welcome back! I didn’t expect you for another few hours.” he said scratching the back of his head.

“We work fast.” I said simply.

“Good, Good. I like humble people. Now let’s see how you did.” he said as he gestured to hand over the card.

“Old Man do you have any tasks involving Goblins?” I asked hoping to get a quest that I could do while also leveling my weapon.

He tapped his chin for a minute, that’s what I love about advanced AI they could adapt to the situation and access the database and all those wonderful things so that if you're in good enough standing with the NPC they might actually heed your request.

“You know what, there is a horde of them to the west that have started making a den. We need to remove them before they get too big to handle, but I’m afraid to send you two by yourselves.” he said after a moment.

“Don’t worry Old Master, we have some friends who will be joining us soon.” I tried to assure him.

He seemed to pause for a second before answering, “Well you two seem bright enough not to throw your lives away. Here.”

We accepted the quest and made our way over to the courtyard entrance. It had just reached an hour and hundreds of players were flooding through the gate. I was watching my Friends list and inviting people to the guild as they came online. After about 15 minutes I had invited 15 people making us technically the biggest and only guild currently in the game. They had to do the rabbit quest so we ended up waiting for another 10 minutes as the fields were so crowded.

Of the 15 people now in the guild there were 6 with me making us a party of 7. The rest wanted to focus on Life professions. The first person I saw was Eliza, she was a half Elf, with blond hair and a pointed face but her ears while slightly longer than a humans were rounded instead of pointed. She had chosen mage as her class.

Next was Gared, he went with Half-Giant. You can’t go full Giant but the Half was still pretty tall with him being over 3 meters tall and a balky frame. He had set his hair to be shoulder length brown with a Nordic typeface. He had a polearm slung over his shoulder that was almost as tall as him. Next to him was Lily, she went with a werecat. We had decided that they count as half. She was a Druid and was going to be our healer. She looked tiny compared to Gared, with tomboy like looks, she was bouncing around like she was on a field trip.

Right behind them came Alfred, he had went with Dhampir as his race, he even set his starting clothes to that of a Butler. He had on white gloves with symbols all over them so he must have went with summoner, too bad you don’t actually start with a summoning skill. While he didn’t go with wise old man butler, he went with pretty boy that is most likely the murderer looks, I already kind of wanted to punch him.

Finally walking next to Alfred was Jasmine. She had went with Dhampir as well, with the classic vampire looks of platinum hair and pale skin. She was hanging off Alfred’s arm trying to talk his ear off. I wasn’t sure but I think she went Warlock but quite a few classes use scepters so I couldn’t be sure. We all knew she wanted to be a couple with Alfred but he kept turning her down. I asked him once he said he didn’t want to date until he was financially secure.

“Looks like everyone that could make it this time is here.” I said to the group.

“You guys are so sloooowwww. We’re already level 6 here.” Yui said from beside me.

“Really? Everyone else I’ve seen is between 2 and 4.” Lily commented.

“We got access to a really good quest, hold on I’ll share the next one with you as it is a group quest.” I said as I sent the quest to the group.

“Ha! You get the good stuff I see,” Gared said reading over the quest details.

“You know it!” I said with a grin, “Come on let’s move before more players move on our new hunting grounds.”

We all quickly left for the goblin zone to the east that quest hinted at. The whole way I would walk, run, jump and generally move how I wanted at any given time just enjoying the feeling of being free. The others just smiled and ignored me, some joined in and raced me or tried to jump higher. Gared won of course given his extra meter in height but at least we tried.

“You guys given any thought on our plans for the future?” I asked the group while we walked.

“I want to make a profit so…” Alfred said from the back of the group.

“Of course, we’re going to make a profit, I meant solid details here,” I retorted.

“Well, I heard that starting a town would be a pretty good starting point,” Lily said while stretching.

“A town, huh, do you think we can manage that?” I was a nerd not a mayor, I wouldn’t know the first thing about running a town. I sucked at city sims. I had once gotten a city destroyed on easy setting, with disasters turned off. I chuckled at the memory.

“I’m pretty decent at management type games,” Eliza said from the back of the group.

“Then we just need to find a city stone then,” I said rubbing my chin, “well either way it shouldn’t be hard to recruit people into the guild if we show off these gears enough.”

“Or it will get us hunted down by every major guild that’s migrating over,” Alfred commented.

“Oh, be quiet mister grumpy,” Yui said making a face at him.

We all burst into laughter and continued back and forth till we reached the goblin zone. The journey was only about ten minutes total which wasn't bad if you considered that it was a starter area. The quest icon blinked that we were close to the location.

I looked around when we arrived at a rather hilly area. It didn't quite reach mountains yet.

There was a decent amount of trees that surrounded a set of low lying hills. I figured that the goblins would probably stick to form and be in and around a cave nearby. I pulled my rifle out just to be safe, you never know when you might get surprised by an ambush.

Yui took point while Gared basically towered over her from behind, not only was his reach naturally longer, but his weapon would allow some decent over the head action. Everyone else fell back a few paces to make sure we had the range. I took rearguard as I had the fastest weapon of the casters, so if anything tried to sneak up on us I should be able to put at least one hole in it.

Yui set a quick pace as we made our way deeper into the foothills. We saw plenty of other monsters, and I quickly took them out so that the others would be able to raise their levels a bit before we got to the main site of the quest. I suddenly heard a howl that came from the left and the rest of the party stopped as well. A few more howls soon followed and we braced ourselves for the coming fight.

Yui moved to that side and readied her shield. The tension steadily built when a wolf suddenly burst from above us in the tree branches. I had to admit I gapped at it for a second before I swung my rifle to point at it and fired. I didn’t take enough time and only managed to clip it on the side.

Gerad reacted as well as he brought his pole arm around in a large arc and slammed the blade into the wolf’s side. The force of the impact caused the wolf to fly back a few meters. I had to give the half-giant form some credit for the amount of strength he was able to deliver with that strike.

Before the wolf had landed another three burst from various parts of the tree, another followed the first, coming out of the branches, while one came from the shrubs surrounding the tree and the last one launched from what seemed like the straight above, from the tree canopy.

I aimed at the one that came from straight above as I had the best view of it. I decided to go for safe than sorry and went for a body shot. I pulled the trigger and everything seemed to slow down for a moment as the bullet’s line was superimposed over my vision. It traveled the distance in a blink of an eye and went through the wolf’s heart, not sure how I knew that but I just did.

When I looked back I saw that the other two wolves had already been dealt with. One was a charred mess while the other had a spectral creature of some kind gnawing on it. Alred’s gloves and Jasmine’s staff were both glowing so I assumed they were the ones that took them out.

“Well, that was fun!” Gared boomed.

“Indeed,” Lily said as she worked on climbing up his shoulder.

“And this is without skills, or even real magic,” I said as I twirled my rifle to let it rest on my shoulder, “I need a cigar to complete the effect,” I lamented out loud.

“Haha, We’ll make a proper cowboy out of you yet,” Gared said as he smacked my shoulder.
