Margot's Mansion progress update

Just a little update to let everyone know where I'm at: I now have all my puzzles, scenes and interactions for chapter 1 are all scripted and working, it's a functioning game!* (That still needs work)

This month I'm focusing on polish: replacing placeholder art and text, reworking navigation, adding in a couple of extra scenes and finally adding in audio and music. I'm not sure how long this step will take, dealing with audio in particular is brand new to me but I'll keep you updated. It'll probably be a couple of months before I'm ready for playtesters.

The big problem I'm having is that I want to get something people can play out as soon as possible but that's sort of at odds with the genre I picked. Puzzle games generally have very little replayability so I really want to put my best foot forward with chapter 1 and make something special since I know most people won't be playing it a second time, and if they do it won't be as fresh as the first no matter how much it's improved. I really want voice acting for example but that's gonna have to wait till pretty much the end of development. This also makes the plan I have of gradually adding additional sex scenes and animations to the chapter kind of a problem too.

So the genre might make it a little awkward but I still think it'll work out. Maybe the best way to play the game will be to dip your toes into the early versions to see what it's like but wait till the very end to really play it. I wanna thank you all for your support and I hope to have something you can play as soon as I can!

Thanks 9b! Glad to hear it

It will work out in the end, Don't rush it! It's the Journey not the destination. Plus if the Characters, story-line, Game play is polished overall, people will always come to play it again just like good retro Games. I am glad that it's going well too. Also Aimee and Max look so nice

Thanks man! Yeah voice acting is going to be a big challenge, especially finding the right actors, it adds so much to adventure games I gotta at least try it I think. Also that's good to hear, I'll worry a little less about replayability, at least in regards to adding in new scenes/content down the line

Really cool to hear that things are progressing along at a point to where you feel more confident in moving to the polish phase. Huge ambition to add voice acting to the game too! Although, if push comes to shove, I'm always a fan of the "text boops" way of conveying voice. And I agree with MDK above, there's plenty of reason to play through again, this is something that I've done also from time to time. Even though I've played through or read through a novel, sometimes with a bit of time in between the sessions, we forget the finer nuances and like to revisit. I mean... hell, on an unrelated note, I re-listen to the entire Harry Dresden novels every year lol I enjoy them and hell I forget stuff and it's a fun ride. So no sweat, man!
