You’re spot on about Shiv’s strengths I think, they show how capable she is in subtle ways. No one is a good person in this show but finding your favorite fuck up of a character is fun! (It can change as the characters change obviously) I have such a soft spot for Tom & Greg bcuz you can feel that they’re outsiders, and any imitation to fit into the world of the core Roy family still leaves them sticking out. Tom does this bullying to make himself seem like a tough guy but I think that’s part of the environment & joining this family. The way the world of the rich corrupts & emotionally stunts people is a big theme. You can see these moments of vulnerability with Tom: his face when he realized he messed up by proposing and his seriousness when saying he’ll look out for Greg (he looked a bit uncomfortable with himself after Greg left).

2025-10-25 22:41:48 +0000 UTCThey are all losers, but Kendall is MY loser 😂 I love that you are latching onto that very central internal tug-of-war of humanity vs. cutthroat business "acumen" (but also is it actually acumen, or is it like the stock market: numbers that represent how people *feel* about what is happening) . There is also obviously a huge aspect where, confusingly, gaining parental approval in this scenario would basically mean emancipating yourself from the parent -- as you already picked up on, and was clear in the first episode: to Logan, sentimentality has no place here. Keeping your humanity *and* gaining approval seems a very "unstoppable force vs. immovable object" situation. Also, on the lighter side, the humor in this episode is en pointe: Tom walking in on that Roman and Shiv slap fight and immediately leaving, Greg's entire bumbling adventure (some of his line readings just kill me, a la "Are you the more senior sibling?" "I apologize if my bell summoned you" and his slipper confusion, Tom's insane proposal, Tom's aggressive and strange bullying/mentoring of Greg, Gerri's "Don't jump." To me, this really is the Prestige HBO Drama version of Arrested Development, and when I say that I also mean that I think it is somehow actually funnier.
