Severance 2x10 [EARLY ACCESS]

You said everything I was going to say and even a little bit more. That is why I love your videos so much. You often provide food for thoughts or see things or connect things to one another. It allows me a new point of view on something I really liked and it broadens my horizon. One of the things I enjoy the most in life is opening my mind with new ideas or new ways of thinking to something and it is something I have found on your channel so thank you. I won't tell which season I enjoyed more because I have honestly no idea. I don't think Severance is a show with very distinctive seasons. For me, it is a story and each episode is a chapter of a book. It makes no sense to ask which chapter is your favorite. The important thing to ask is "Did you enjoy the story as a whole? Did you like the characters? Was the journey interesting?". For now, I really enjoy the story, the characters, the themes, the questions asked and the journey. Sometimes, in a book, you diverge from the main story and focus on a character for an entire chapter. It feels the same for me with Severance so I didn't mind the fact that it was a little disjointed. IMO, it also served a specific purpose. When you think of it, all the characters in the show that are severed have a very disjointed life. They are split into two (or even more for Gemma). As we see in this episode they can leave a cabin and immediately find themselves in an elevator, not knowing how much time has passed and what happened in the meantime. In a way the disjointed structure of the season put the viewer in the shoes of a severed person. I don't know if it was the initial intent of the writers but I like to think it enhances the viewing experience. I will be here for season 3 anyway so that is the best indicator that I enjoyed this season a lot. I hope I will be able to see it in real time and share my theories with you. Until then, I will continue to watch your BTVS and ATS videos. Take care of yourself Tyler.

I liked it! I honestly just wish I'd been more clear on the intent earlier so I could've put the other stuff aside and focused on what they were going for more so. I went the way I did because of the writing of the show and how it was constructed but still. I think looking back that perhaps the videos weren't as good as they could be because of that, but I like the show. It was a little disjointed in pacing but I don't mind it. I kept saying in the videos that I really was just waiting until the last ep to fully judge.

I'm so glad the finale landed for you, just as I hoped and expected it would. You did such a great job picking up on all the Mark S versus Mark stuff that you understood why Mark S picked Helly at the end, which was great. Lots of fans and reactors were super pissed off at Mark S for abandoning Gemma at the last minute. I wasn't angry per se, but I was kind of shocked. Once I thought about it more, I realized that I'd continued to fall into the trap of thinking of Mark S and Mark as two sides of the same person, and assigning them the same motivations. It wasn't until Mark S picked Helly that I realized just how vastly different their motivations are. It was cool to see you get it right away! I also really appreciate your analysis of why the season felt disjointed, and I think you're spot on. It clarifies how a decent portion of the fanbase hated "Sweet Vitriol", and complained that it was a waste of time where nothing happened except the reveal that Cobel invented severance, which could have been covered in five minutes of a "normal" episode. I can totally see that point of view through the lens of your analysis: those are the fans who were much more engaged with the Gemma/Cold Harbor plot and less interested in the exploration of character. I happen to be pretty far to the side of the "Who are we?" side of your proposed spectrum, so I absolutely adored that episode. It was such a beautiful deep dive into who Harmony Cobel is, which casts a whole new light on all her previous actions and motivations. But I can see now why folks on the plot side of the spectrum would find it to be a waste of time. Forgive me if I missed it, but can you clarify where you feel you fall on the spectrum? I know some people were disgruntled by some of your perceived "negative" comments, but I continue to appreciate how you tackle such a complex show with nuance. Nothing is perfect, and a wholly positive review might feel satisfying, but it's not a good analysis. You do good analysis, and I am here for it.
