This is maybe an overdramatic way of phrasing it but I kind of think Jon and Sam's friendship is more or less over once Jon gets resurrected. While he accepts the situation with the baby, once Aemon dies he once again blames Jon for it in his mind, and since the rest of the book sort of establishes that the rumors about Jon that travel south seem overwhelmingly to paint him as very harsh ("the black bastard"), a personality he most likely will fully embrace come resurrection time, all mixed together with the pain of the journey...I kind of think there is going to be a pretty big, maybe not permanent but pretty big, falling out between the two. If that's the case maybe returning Gilly's baby could reconcile them in the end (or maybe i just want all friendship stories to be structured like Colonel Blimp...a firm friendship is great but a broken and painfully reformed one is even moreso)
