2021-06-29 11:58:28 +0000 UTCThe mystery of who, or what, was driving the Fellowship towards Moria is one of the great mysteries of LotR and is made even more so because, had they Fellowship taken any other path, the Ring would not have been destroyed. If they don't go through Moria, Gandalf doesn't die and get his power upgrade and more importantly, Gollum never encounters the Fellowship and isn't there to lead Frodo and Sam into Mordor and, ultimately, fall into Mount Doom with the Ring. Is this a case of Sauron or Saruman trying to thwart our heroes, ironically putting them on the one path that will allow them to succeed in their quest? Or was some greater force at work? Or, are both of these things true? In the words of the God Entity in Futurama "when you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."
