“Legends tell of a powerful Lord of the Wyldfae, having created a handful of these blades for his most loyal warriors. While the Fae Lord’s true name is unknown to mortals, he is known by several monikers; The Knight of Nepenthe, the Sundew Sovereign, the Ravenous Prince…
Some tales paint him as a hero of the Wyldfae, bringing justice throughout the chaotic realm, and bestowing gifts to those who do the same. Others tell of a lush, draped in finery and delivering every hedonistic pleasure imaginable to those he favors…or devouring those pleasures for himself, along with those who will not give in to his debauchery.
The blade itself is imbued with the seed of a magical plant from the fae realms, granting it a spark of life. While not truly sentient itself, the blade develops a strong bond with its wielder, as if the wielder is a beloved parent, caring for it.
Woe be to any who try to separate this ‘child’ from its ‘parent’, as its love is only eclipsed by its hunger…”
Symbiotic Sword - While not sentient in the traditional sense, upon attuning to this blade you connect to the primal intelligence within, bonding with it, and feeling the hunger contained within. A hunger for blood.
Upon attuning, the sword begins in its Sprout phase, but as you feed the sword, its power grows, gaining additional abilities each new phase. Be wary though, as overfeeding it can result in danger to those around you.
To feed the sword, you must do damage to living enemies that have blood and are alive. Constructs, Elementals, Oozes, Plants, and Undead are typically unable to feed the sword. Alternatively, as a Bonus Action, you may choose to feed the sword your own blood, by expending hit dice as if you were taking a Short Rest.
Every 10 minutes the sword does not feed, it reverts to its previous stage.
Sprout - This is the sword's base form.
Loving Embrace. Due to the bond you share, you cannot be disarmed of this weapon against your will, as the vines that grow on the blade wrap around your hand and forearm. Additionally, while attuned to the blade, you gain Advantage on Death Saving Throws, as the sword helps funnel its life energies into you.
Friend of Flora. You may cast the spell Speak With Plants, reducing the casting time to 1 Action. You can use this ability once per Long Rest.
Budding - The sword moves into its Budding phase once it has dealt more than 30 damage in 1 minute.
Necrobloom. Attacks with the sword now deal an additional 1d6 Necrotic damage, as it becomes further able to drain the life of creatures it strikes.
Tangling Tendrils. As a Bonus Action, you may cause vines to burst from the sword. All creatures of your choosing, within 15ft. of you, must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. Failure: The creature takes 3d6 Necrotic damage and is knocked Prone. Success: Half damage.
Full Bloom - The sword moves into its Full Bloom phase once it has dealt more than 75 damage in 1 minute.
Vampiric Vines. Its hunger partially sated, the sword grants some of the excess lifeforce it drains to you. The first time you make a successful attack against another creature on your turn, you gain temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt.
Loyal Protector. As the blade fully comes into its own, it seeks to defend you. Whenever a hostile creature moves within 10ft. of you for the first time on a turn, the blade lashes out with one of its vines, dealing 1d6 Necrotic damage.
Overfed - The sword becomes Overfed once it has dealt more than 150 damage in 1 minute. If this happens, the sword fuses with the wielder, seeking to consume any and all living creatures around it. It starts with hostile creatures, due to its desire to protect itself and its host, but if there are no hostile creatures in sight, it will target the next closest living thing. Upon entering this phase, all of its abilities are strengthened.
Loving Embrace. When taking the Attack action, your reach is extended to 15ft. Additionally, you gain Advantage on all Saving Throws against spells.
Friend of Flora. You may cast the spell Speak with Plants at will as an Action and when doing so, can affect an area in a 100ft. Radius.
Necrobloom. The additional damage is increased to 2d6 Necrotic.
Tangling Tendrils. The ability now affects all creatures within 30ft. of you. Additionally, the damage is increased to 6d6 and you may pull creatures who fail their saving throw up to 15 ft. toward you.
Vampiric Vines. All damage dealt by the sword heals you for the same amount if you are below full hit points.
Loyal Protector. The damage of the ability is increased to 2d6 Necrotic damage. Creatures affected by this ability have Disadvantage on their next Attack roll against you.
To end the Overfed condition, the wielder must be prevented from dealing any damage with the sword for 1 minute. Afterwhich, it reverts back to its Sprout form, having burned through all of its excess energy.
