The Multiverse of Superwomen (Ch.5)

There were Lois' of all different shapes and sizes around Lena and Lana now. Each had been empowered in their respective universes through some means to become kryptonian, each wore a different variant of the famous blue and red supersuit; yet some had a yellow and purple one, others green and yellow. A couple were incredibly muscular, a few were moderately built, others were quite thin, but all were mighty in their own way, mighty enough to contribute to a new super army that would take on the growing, threatening one of Ursa's.

"You all came just in the nick of time!" said Lana. "When they attacked, I thought we were done for."

The attack on Metropolis was, indeed, short-lived. The various Ursas had landed and wrecked temporary havoc before the numerous Lois' arrived and put a stop to it. But they all knew their enemy's retreat wouldn't last long. They would, in fact, return in even greater numbers.

"Yes," added Lena, staring down at one of her broken weapons. The ingenious devices she had developed had worked a charm, neutralising kryptonians at close range with a dose of replica red sun radiation, thus sending them safely back to their own universe, but now they were destroyed.

"Can't we just develop more?" wondered Lana aloud.

"Yes, we could," she replied, "But this has all become much more dangerous now. It's one thing to corner a single kryptonian, but if they come at us at close range with such numbers, it'll be over before we can disappear enough of them."

"What about giving each of these Lois' a gun? asked Lana.

"I can't make them fast enough. Only one or two at a time."

They explained then to the different and growing number of super Lois' everything that had happened up to that point; their technology, their plan, and the full story about Ursa.

"Then there is only one solution," started one of the Lois', "We must find the original Ursa, or at least the one from this world, and eliminate her."

"Why?" asked Lana. "Temporarily stripped her of her powers via the weapons won't make her disappear. As you said yourself: this is her world."

"I don't mean to strip her of her powers, but of her life."

"As grim as it sounds," started Lena, "She's right. If our Ursa were eliminated, then surely the spell she cast to bring everyone here to challenge her would be ended. This whole fiasco would be stopped and things could go back to normal."

"It's what we must do. Our only hope," said the first super Lois that had arrived.

"Yeah," added a different Lois, floating down beside them. "But do we even know where she is at this moment?"

Another voice spoke behind them. It was new yet strangely familiar.

"I think I can help you with that," they said.

Everyone in the room turned around and were comforted to find yet version of Lois standing before them.

"Please, I mean you all no harm," replied the rather angelic Lois. "I'm just like you."

"How can you help us?" asked Lana. "Do you know something these other Lois' don't?"

"Yes. I noticed Ursa's army building when I first arrived. I secretly went along to see what they were putting together and when they started to attack the cities of the world, I left and tried to warn any who might listen, and when I saw you turn up and defy them, I came to help. But now that I'm here I can actually show you where this universe's Ursa is hiding, so that you might end her and we can all return home. It is in National City, but her forces are growing with each passing moment, and she has a loyal band of muscular, mighty women close by that will defend her no matter what."

"We just need to get through that first," Lena suggested.

"Well, that's where we come in," the lead Lois replied. "We'll punch you a hole through and then someone needs to confront your Ursa."

"This is a good plan," said Lana. "But who will do the terrible deed? Who'll kill Ursa?"

"I will," said the lead Lois. She was reluctant yet still declared to everyone in attendance: "I will kill Ursa."

"We can aid you in your task," said Lena. "If you carry us in, too, we can use our guns to depower her first. It'll make your task a lot easier."

"We four will make the difference then," said the newest Lois, sharing a smile that had no malice to it, only amity. "If I'm going to show you the way, I might as well go all the way with you."

Thus, they all got to work, and two new weapons were made by Lena at breakneck speed based on the previous ones, and built from a lot of their old parts. While a little ramshackle, it was the best they could do on such short notice. When ready, Lena wrapped her arm around the lead Lois' muscular neck and shoulders, and leaned against her long red cape. Lana, meanwhile, threw her hands around the newer Lois, feeling and marvelling at how muscular her back was.

Levitating out the broken window of Lexcorp, their two passengers were a little horrified upon seeing the street so far below. It wasn't long, however, until they were floating up safely into the sky.

"I know it's a long way to fall," joked Lois, pushing herself through the clouds, but we'll keep you both alive, don't worry."

Lana took a quick look over her shoulder then and was in awe of those who had rallied and followed them, and, as their journey continued, more slowly joined in until the sky seemed littered with super-powered copies of Lois Lane, all compete with supersuits and capes.

"How can we possibly lose now?" she told herself, holding onto her Lois tighter than before.

It didn't take long to fly to the location of Ursa's lair in National City, but as they made their final approach, multiple sets of lasers shot forth through the clouds and struck a number of their party from the sky. Following the blasts, members of Ursa's army then popped out of the clouds and flew straight at them.

We're they just gaurds or had they just flown into a trap? They didn't know, but the lead Lois' pushed on with Lena and Lana on their backs. More Ursas appeared then and they all felt that a massive battle was about to take place. Hundreds of brawny, superpowered women using all of their kryptonian might to punch, kick, and blast one another. The army of Lois vs the army of Ursa.

Indeed, whenever a combatant crashed to Earth, it would send out a mild shockwave before they'd get back up unfazed and rejoin the fight. But as it wore on, the Lois' pushed their opponents back and opened a path which led straight to a tower where they hoped the original Ursa could still be found.

"You have some nerve showing yourself here," she said, sitting on a makeshift throne of sorts and back wearing her classic black outfit.

"It's over, Ursa," said Lena.

"It is, my dear," she replied with a smile. "But only for you."

"Can't you see," said the lead Lois, walking towards her, "All the harm you've done. It has to stop."

"Your kind is weak," she replied. "A pathetic, cheap copy of a copy. A soft do-gooder! I want you out of my sight!"

Lena and Lana didn't waste any time and raised their weapons but as they attempted to depower her, there was a quiet rush beside them, as if someone had suddenly opened a window and a gust had blown through the room. In fact, it was newer Lois using her super speed to move in front of them in a heartbeat. She stood there with her hands on her hips and stared down on them with a smile. She was a couple of inches taller than them in this form and was slightly menacing.

"W-What are you doing?" asked Lana nervously.

Without replying she slapped both guns out of their hands before they could fire and picked them effortlessly off the ground by their collars.

"You fools," said Ursa. "If there are so many good versions of her, there has to be at least one who is more agreeable to my cause. An evil Lois Lane, if you will. You see, she came to me first, and I made sure they found you and would make you come here."

"So, it was a trap!" said the lead Lois, furious with herself. She tried to save them, but Ursa was too quick and delivered a devastating blow across her jaw. As she tried to pick herself back up, Ursa just placed a boot on her back and pushed down hard.

"What did I say? Oh, that's right, I want you out of my sight!"

As soon as she finished talking, her eyes hummed and turned red before shooting the lead Lois while she was still kneeling on the ground. Lois tried to resist the deadly blasts as best she could but it was becoming more and more difficult with each passing moment. Yet, as she was about to fall, there was a cry from outside causing Ursa to stop. She walked over to the window then and passed the evil Lois who still held Lena and Lana in the air.

"What is it?" Lois asked.

"Me," said Ursa, staring out the window in almost a trance like state now. "It's...me."

Floating down before her was, indeed, a single, lone superwoman who looked just like the villain. Everyone in the room turned then and were stunned to find a unique version of Ursa. Unlike so many others, her brown hair was long and flowed around her shoulders. She had the familiar tunic with plunging neckline, except it was all white, and their were no badges or trophies.

"See," said Lena, "You can't win. Not against yourself."

"My dear, this all started with me wanting a challenge, and my goodness have I been challenged! Every part of me, and apparently every possible version of me, is now being challenged. Yet, I will still win in the end."

"Don't be so sure," said the good Ursa, clenching her fists. She pounced forward and struck her manical namesake. They wrestled with each other before drawing themselves up off the floor. The Ursa dressed in white punched her evil doppleganger through the roof before following her outside. They started crashing into each other and flinging themselves against the buildings and streets amidst the ongoing battle of superwomen around them.

Yet, as it continued, the other combatants slowly stopped one by one -whether they be a Lois or an Ursa- to watch this unusual duel unfold. It wasn't until Ursa the good took hold of Ursa the evil around her neck and tried to bring her to heel that the battle finally came to a close.

"It can't end like this!" she shrieked, trying to break free.

"It can and it must," replied Lena, coming to their side. "If it doesn't then..."

Ursa then sent two flashes of red forth from her eyes, just missing Lena, Lana and those gathered nearby. Other Ursas tried to intervene but the super Lois' in attendance wouldn't let them.

"I will not yield!" Ursa continued.

"I'm afraid you will," the righteous Ursa responded coolly, "You will to me."

There were Lois' of all different shapes and sizes around Lena and Lana now. Each had been empowered in their respective universes through some means to become kryptonian, each wore a different variant of the famous blue and red supersuit; yet some had a yellow and purple one, others green and yellow. And they weren't all branded 'Superwomen' either; there were a few who operated under the 'Ultrawoman' moniker. A couple were incredibly muscular, a few were moderately built, others were quite thin, but all were mighty in their own way, mighty enough to contribute to a new super army that would take on the growing, threatening one of Ursa's.

With that, she leaned in tighter on the original Ursa's neck and flexed the muscles of her arms. They bulged as they tightened around the evil Ursa's throat, until snap! and she was gone.

The triumphant Ursa then lay her down upon the ground and looked at Lena, who stared for a moment in shock before answering.

"It's done so. No more superwomen will come through from the multiverse. As I thought, her greatest challenge came from herself, and she couldn't overcome it."

"But what of you?" asked Lana. "Where do you come from? What made you the way you are? Different from all the rest of them?"

"I don't know," she replied. "I just am. And when I realized what was happening, I came to help."

"But what about all of the rest of them?" asked one of the Lois' who flew down by their side.

Yet, as she did so, she herself began fading away.

"I think there's your answer," replied a relieved Lena. "Without her, you're all going back to your own realities. The same with all of the Ursas. Things are going back to the way they were, slowly but surely."

Lena, Lana, and the good Ursa looked up then and could see each superwoman disappear from their universe and knew the same thing would be happening the world over. They had actually succeeded.

"Soon, it'll be my turn to go," Ursa replied standing by their side.

"And we only just met."

"No, Lena, we have met before. Where I come from you were a villain, but here you appear different. Here you appear to be a hero, however..."

She faded away then, just as she was about to turn to Lana and continue the sentence.

"That sounded like the beginnings of a warning," Lana joked.

"I guess we'll never know," replied Lena. "Come on, though, let's get back to Metropolis."

Indeed, they began a long journey which eventually took the pair all the way back to the broken and long-suffering labs of Lexcorp. Excitement over, even the body of Ursa was returned by Lena, whose experiments apparently weren't complete.

"Why have you brought her here?" asked Lana, getting ready to leave herself.

"For the same reason I retieved the other bodies. I want to unlock their secrets."

"But it's over. Ursa is defeated. All the kryptonians are gone. The world is at peace."

"You're right, they're all extinct. But I'm not sure the world is at peace. It's in chaos now as a result of everything that's happened. But either way I dont really care."

"What do you mean, Lena? We did it to save the world, surely?"

"Oh sure. Though, in truth, I had alterior motives. With all the other kryptonians gone it leaves a vacuum of power and a great opportunity."

"For what?" replied a confused Lana.

"To become the only kryptonians ourselves."

"What in God's name are you talking about?"

"I have the means to transform a regular human into a god now, Lana. Thanks to Ursa's madness, she has given me all of the the information, the knowledge, and raw material I needed. And with the other superwomen out of the way, there'll be no stopping us."

"I want no part of this," said Lana, backing away.

"More for me then," Lena replied, smiling, before pressing a button on the computer panel. Behind them both a large chamber rose from the floor, eventually stopping with a loud crack.

"This is what the righteous Ursa was trying to warn me about. You're good but you're also not so good at times."

"Pretty sure she was going to say: 'However...never trust a Luthor!'"

And with that, Lena opened the door of the chamber and walked inside.

"I'm going to splice my DNA with the atributes of the various superwomen that passed through here. I'm going to be a little bit super Lois, a little bit Ursa, a little supergirl, a little powergirl. I'm going to be them all combined, and when done, I'm glong to rule the Earth."

When she finished speaking, the machine kicked into gear and started to send rays of light directly into and throughout her petite body. The sensation burned at first but then became pleasureable. She stared up at the ceiling and smiled. Her flowing black locks stood on end, and her eyes shine bright. Her red lips and pale skin were illuminated, and she couldn't help but smile a big toothy grin.

She felt her body morph. Her limbs filled up with might, expanding through her clothes. The same with her legs. Then she noticed her back pushing through her meagre human clothes. She clenched her fists and pumped her growing muscles. Her chest widened and thus split her shirt. When her transformation was complete, she punched through the glass of the chamber and stumbled forth before standing tall as the newly formed and utterly super Lena Luthor.

"Yes!" she said, "It actually worked. I am the most powerful superwoman ever and I-"
As she spoke, she noticed Lana stepping through the smoke holding up both solar pistols, threatening to shoot and immediately depower her.

"I'm sorry," Lana said, quivering, "But it's for your own good. For the good of everyone."

As she pressed the triggers, however, the blasts had no effect on Lena who just stood there with her head back and hands on hips.

Lana tried again, but they still had no effect.

"You fool," said Lena. "I made sure that my body can absorb sun from both yellow and red suns. I've also made sure that kryptonite has no effect on me. I am unstoppable by design!"
She walked over to Lana then and grabbed her by the collar and lifted her off of the ground.

"And you could've had some of this, but you declined."

Lena turned her head then and shot the chamber to make sure no one else could ever use it to replicate her powers.

"Guess you're just evil in every universe, aren't you, Lena?"

"Maybe so," laughed Lena, before looking down at her rags. "But I need fresh attire befitting of my new stature. Luckily I prepared one earlier just for this occasion."

She dropped Lana, before speeding over to a secret compartment nearby, revealing a custom supersuit of her own making containing colours from the different superwoman they'd met and triffled with along their journey.

"Pieces of all of their suits," she said. "I thought it's be a fitting tribute."

It wasn't long before she was fully dressed and cut an awesome muscular sight as she strode over to Lana who was left crawling backwards in fear of her former comrade. But Lena just walked right past her and towards one of the shattered windows of the building, staring down on the fragile, defenseless world.

"Time to make them all aware of their new ruler, I guess," she smiled, floating outwards and into the night sky, blasting away and leaving a terrible shockwave in her wake.

With that, she leaned in tighter on the original Ursa's neck and flexed the muscles of her arms. They bulged as they tightened around the evil Ursa's throat, until snap! and she was gone.

"You fool," said Lena. "I made sure that my body can absorb sun from both yellow and red suns. I've also made sure that kryptonite has no effect on me. I am unstoppable by design!"

She walked over to Lana then and grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off of the ground.

Luckily, I prepared one earlier just for this occasion."

She dropped Lana before speeding over to a secret compartment nearby, revealing a custom supersuit of her own making containing colours from the different superwoman they'd met and triffled with along their journey.

"Pieces of all of their suits," she said. "I thought it'd be a fitting tribute."

It wasn't long before she was fully dressed and cut an awesome muscular figure as she strode over to Lana who was left crawling backwards in fear of her former comrade. But Lena just walked right past her and towards one of the shattered windows of the building, staring down on the fragile, defenseless world.

"Time to make them all aware of their new ruler, I guess," she smiled, floating outwards and into the night sky, before blasting away and leaving a terrible shockwave in her wake. And thus, the last Superwoman was reborn.
