Dev Report, September 2024

Hello friends,

It feels like September flew by in the blink of an eye, but looking back, I realize a significant amount of progress was made on the game. This month was largely dedicated to refining and fine-tuning the implant system, along with reworking some of the cutscenes. As a result, this dev report will be relatively short, but packed with updates.

Implant System

I’ve fully completed the coding, modeling, and UI design for the implant system. Since there was an entire post earlier this month detailing how the system works, I won’t go over it again here. But rest assured, everything is now functional and integrated!

 

New Rooms

To give the implant system more meaningful placement, I unlocked several rooms aboard the ship. These rooms now house the imPacks and MedStations you’ll need to interact with for installing your implants. The additions were necessary to ensure the system feels natural and fits within the overall flow of the gameplay.

 

Cutscenes

Being my first experience working on a narrative within game development, there were a few inconsistencies in the story that needed addressing. I took the time to rework several key scenes to ensure the characters and overall plot are better fleshed out. Specifically, I revamped the briefing scene (the first mission), the meeting with the brothers, and a few other smaller scenes to create more cohesive storytelling.

Dialogues for the Next Act

I’ve fully completed all the dialogue for the next act. On top of that, the voice actor has done an excellent job bringing the main character to life. Oni will now react to her surroundings more frequently, commenting on events as they unfold, which should make the narrative more engaging.

New NPC

I’ve added a new NPC to the game - Capt. Eliot Nelian. Since I’m not a fan of spoilers, I won’t reveal too much about him just yet.

3D Models

Of course, no month would be complete without creating some fresh meshes for both old and new locations. There’s been a consistent effort to improve the visual fidelity of the environments, adding more detail to enrich the atmosphere.

What’s Next?

Next month, my focus will shift towards preparing the build for the 0.2.2 update release. I’ll be working on debugging and polishing the update, and if everything goes smoothly, I plan to start developing the continuation of the game’s main storyline.

Since most of the work for 0.2.2 is already complete, you can expect the update to be released in the coming weeks.

I am really curious about the reworked cut scenes, because there wasn't much that left room for improvement, but I am already convinced I will like it and play it from the start :)
