Hello friends,
I wanted to share what I’ve been working on over the past couple of weeks. It’s the Character Menu, and I’m excited to say that the UI work is almost complete!
As you can see from the screenshot, there are several sections with different types of information. Let’s go through each one in detail.
In this section, you’ll find the primary stats of the main character, Oni:
Health: This parameter is likely familiar to you by now. It decreases as Oni takes physical damage, such as from falls, enemy attacks, explosions, etc.
Immunity: This stat is closely tied to the infection we’ve seen in the game. Immunity decreases as the infection spreads through Oni. This stat will also affect resistance to certain poisonous elements in future updates.
Mental Health: This is a completely new parameter in the game. Frequent deep infections or other stressors will cause Oni to lose her sanity. If Mental Health drops too low, Oni will completely succumb to the parasite and will serve it.
At the bottom of the stats window, you’ll also notice a small section for effects that are currently impacting Oni. This window will detail the benefits or detriments of these effects. For instance, it will show how the infection is affecting Oni or what the impact of implants might be.
In the lower part of the Character Menu, you’ll find the Tools and Medications section.
Tools: On the left, there are three slots for tools. One of them is the Multitool, which Oni used in the first and second acts to access ventilation shafts. Two more tools will be added in future updates to assist Oni in her challenging journey.
Medications: On the right, there are two slots for medications. One will be used to restore physical health, while the other will reduce the infection level.
As indicated by the screenshot, this section is dedicated to consumables. These items will be crucial for survival and progression.
In the central part of the Character Menu, you’ll notice the familiar human silhouette, but this time with new information. Below the arms, you’ll see icons for weapons and the C-Scanner. However, the other interface elements are entirely new, introducing a new gameplay mechanic: Implants.
Some of you observant players have already noticed and mentioned to me that there are elements on Oni’s head and body that resemble implants. And yes, those are indeed implants. Players will be able to find and install two types of implants on a medical table—one for the head and one for the body. Only one implant of each type can be used at a time. The effects of these implants will vary, ranging from combat enhancements to medical benefits. I’ll dive deeper into this in future posts.
As you may have noticed, the item icons in this menu look like buttons, and that’s intentional. Each item icon can be clicked to open a detailed information window about that item.
Left Section: This area will display a render of the selected item.
Right Section: Here, you’ll find a text description of the item, including details about the manufacturer and its various applications.
This revamped Character Menu aims to provide a richer and more interactive experience for managing Oni’s equipment and status. I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
Thank you for your continued support, and stay tuned for more updates!
Cheers,
Kodman
