Toriyama was likely one of the only people in the anime world which people DID know the name of (next to Hayao Miyazaki of Ghibli fame), because Dragon Ball Z single-handedly created a generation of weebs. Slime didn't know Toriyama, and the same thought as everyone has had when someone famous is trending, he thought "Who?", likely expecting some communal agreement, but to no surprise it was the opposite; yeah, maybe a little bit tasteless, but definitely didn't deserve the outcome.
