I think Nick has a fair point in finding prayer to a higher power damaging, and I agree if you’re only looking for answers. As someone who does pray to a higher power. (in my case the Christian God) I pray to appreciate what I have but also to find guidance. I don’t think spirituality is inherently about getting answers but discovering oneself and finding those answers through informed decisions. As a Christian i don’t ignore all opinions that don’t come from the Bible, I weigh what I can find and see how it impacts and affects me.

This was by far my favorite ep. I grew up very Christian, but left Christianity in highschool. Even though it's been a few years I still sometimes struggle with feeling like I made a mistake. Something about nicks similar past was very validating in a way, and helped me feel a little more secure in my decision. Mainly because he left Christianity, and he's doing fine (presumably) so I should be able to accomplish a similar state of fine. Leaving Christianity can be really hard, and once you finally escape, it's still hard to feel right in your decision especially when everyone around you believes so strongly. I'm not saying this episode cured me, but it helped a little, and that's nice. ʕ⁠·⁠ᴥ⁠·⁠ʔ

I was raised Mormon and ended up agnostic to the degree of practically atheist. I completely agree with Nick and how community seems to be the one true positive to religion. Also I believe the word that describes the idea that was bounced around multiple times in this episode is “introspection” as it correlates to meditation. A note on the loaning. Charging interest was originally the sin of ursury. The guy taking the loan is a victim and is not sinning themselves. That's actually how Jewish banks came to be a common institution because Christians would poor money into that as a work around since they couldn't charge the interest. Then the church just moved the goalposts and said it's only "predatory" loans. A little interest is actually totally chill with God now.

I think gambling is a moral wrong because it’s inherently wasteful, there’s no net positive overall compared to the other things you could spend your money on. Just looking at this episode, it was funny to hear nick say that he feels like any time spent on a hobby could instead be spent on doing something to better yourself, but didn’t see the side of gambling that seems way more wasteful than having a hobby. Overall it was a great episode and it was great to hear conversations over spirituality and otherwise deepness!
