Jim Dale is the GOAT of audio books. Also, I listen to ALL the podcasts at 1x speed so that I can hear the tone of the speakers so I'm with Aiden and Nick (and I think Slime) on this

DiabeticDan

I have dyslexia and use audio books to read…now I gotta blow my shit off smooth?! Dyslexia sucks man…

Ray bailey

The last like 10 min is just white men being abelist and not thinking of ANY type of disebelty XD Like sorry bro im dyslixc I cant read. And thats not the only need for audio

Max Nathe Beck Madsen

What was the audiobook that Ludwig played towards the end? Sounded interesting.

Lack_of_reality

I can only listen to an audio book if it's read by an actual person.

Daniel Garcia

lets address the actual problem of audiobooks: who the fuck can listen to this AI shit for longer than a second and not blow their brains out?

Yjisk

27:34 surprise surprise, the theatre kid is good at D&D 😏

kk12ie

I've accidentally bumped the podcast into 1.25x speed before. Hated it. It put it into uncanny valley range, where something felt off, but I couldn't quite figure it out.

Nick Wansink

My brother has dyslexia and he is able to consume more books in a month than I can in a year by reading with my eyes. Sure, comprehension can be a little lower because you might lose focus for a bit. I bet if the boys had to do a book report they would be about equal in quality.

Chort

DnD is never coming They laugh at us who yearn

Logan Butka

I audiobook a lot, I think it's almost the same as reading, I've never really missed any details doing it However doing it at any increased speed is criminal, it feels like turning an otherwise enjoyable experience into homework

Francisco Guerreiro

PLEASE go to Florida together and do a pod with slime's mean grandma oh my god

Jeremy Horvath

Actually Jesus is public domain because spiritual beings can not be copyright

Chad theking

I’m a 1.25x audiobook listener, I honestly would read physical books but I work 12 hour of monotonous hell shifts in restaurants so I need something to occupy the brain

3rdDegree

I listen to audio books often at 1.3x because 1x is too slow, Ludwig is valid

Ben Haug

As a zoomer, I also think ypu should be executed on national television for 2 or 1.5x-ing non educational content

Douglas Nevins

TP advantage is so much better unless you meant in place of flash

Hardstuck Jett 3

If it ever actually comes out

Hardstuck Jett 3

I am excited to listen to every episode of the DnD series at least 2 time.

Painter

The funniest thing EVER would be if you released the dnd episode and there was 0 comedy. Just an hour long boss fight filled mostly with silence.

Syd

1.5 x speed on audio books being the same as reading it is the most brain dead take, it low key should have been Lud's hot take on the main ep. Also if all zoomers listen to this at 1.5x speed, then Im a dog shit zoomer, timing is important in a comedy podcast lol.

Avery Guyer

Floor guys and a cuck, and the cuck is the client watching you set up the event. Million dollar idea.

Jeremy

JIM DALE IS THE FUCKING GOAT

Max Cooke

Audio books are fine distorting their voice by speeding it up is probably the biggest problem. I’d guess that Aiden reads at the speed Ludwig listens to his book but because it isn’t mashed together he will be able to remember it.

Dwayne Whittenton

there's nothing inherently wrong with audiobooks, but there is a mental difference between reading and listening, as well as a difference between reading digitally or from a physical book. if you're curious about the subject, "reader, come home" by marianne wolf dives into the concept of "deep reading" and how it is lost in the digital age. many people listen to audiobooks due to not having time for the other option and that's a sad reflection of american work culture

quanza

being called a terrorist over audiobook discourse is crazy

Maya

Pyall are terrorists listening to an audio book is fine. Listening to an audiobook at increased speed is also fine as long as he's able to understand what's being said. Cause even in a written medium alot of what the author intends is lost in translation but no Ludwig isn't wrong y'all are terrorists and slime needs to do research before talking shit

Chief

Listening to audio books is just a different experience to reading. Hopefully, the narrator is putting some effort into their performance and trying to bring their craft to bear, but speeding that up is just the worst of every world.

Charlie

I think audiobooks are sick as fuck, and i can vividly tell you about every audiobook ive listened to.

Patrick

Can someone please tell slime to run ghost on Gwen

Mike Hassall

Most people I know who Listen to audiobooks specifically mention in conversation that they listened to it instead of reading it, while I don’t think it’s “stupid” to say that; I do think it’s important to distinguish the difference between the two

zach

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a good argument for why listening and reading books are functionally different outside of spelling or pronunciation purposes. Some people process better visually and some process better in an audio format. If I’m playing an audiobook at 2x speed and retaining nothing, that’s really no different from skim reading a book imo (neither method is actual reading at that point). A small caveat is that some books are meant to be consumed visually, are footnote heavy, or involve jumping around between pages (e.g. House of Leaves or Choose-your-own adventure books), so those definitely would be impacted from audio vs visual. But your average fiction novel should be able to provide the same experience regardless of format.

Bobby M

I read books all through my childhood, and now that I'm an adult, and have a job where I have earbuds in and listen to audiobooks all day, I find that audiobooks are equivalent as long as you can understand it, and the tone it conveys, which also means that sometimes turning the speed up, messes with the tone and pacing of the storytelling, but can still be valid if you can interpret that while listening.

zach

i think my IQ dropped like 7 points watching this - aiden

The Yard

Listening to audio books and saying you read a book is fucking insane lmao

Zachary Morgan

Something about hearing it aloud clicks with my brain more. Reading it and giving my brain the full authority to create the emotion of a scene doesn't work well when I can't imagine it myself.

Damon Patterson

I listen to audio books on 2x usually because they narrate was slower than I read and i can't stand it lol

The Magical Lucas

Here's the link too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt-rOdJVU3U

Alessandro Belotti

Guys there's a funny review on your "LOL podcast" take, they be saying nick gives chester vibes hahahah. The video on youtube at the time im seeing it is called "THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LOL PODCAST" by UTUBE STREETS

Alessandro Belotti

Interesting, how does an audio book change anything? Is it just the fact that the narrator can voice characters?

The Magical Lucas

1.5x is crazy but I do listen on 1.25x because 1x is so slow and I get bored

Meghan

Listener with aphantasia here. Reading books is miserable for me and audiobooks help. Specifically graphic audio is amazing for me

Damon Patterson

Can confirm listening to this ep at 1x

chris khounlo

I know Ludwig wasn’t using this as part of his argument but sometimes when I try to read a book I’ll have to re-read a page 4 times because I lose focus but with audiobooks I’m able to focus on and remember the content

Cumfart

I wonder what the yard boys would think of Beau is Afraid. Slime specifically talking about his talk with his grandma immediately made me think of it.

chris khounlo

Thats crazy but I just discovered that topo chico caps fit perfectly on film canisters and now I cant bring myself to throw either away

jumpin bean

53 mins? getting lazier and lazier no wonder why off brand shuts down

kenny le

Quit gatekeeping consuming content. Bro has ADHD he will understand the media better when it's at his pace. I have aphantasia (no pictures in my head) and ADHD I've read many of books and not experienced them at all. I still can understand and enjoy the media but audio books are better for me.

Tristan Acevedo

Where’s the main ep

Kyler Jepperson

I listen to each and every audiobook at 1.5x as well it sounds more natural to me

Tim Decoste

i watch it at .25x to make the podcast last the week

Ameen Kunnathu

idk who listening in 1.5+x speed if feel like it would fuck up the comedic rhythm of the show that shits wild

Nolan Grossi

54 minutes… tsktsktsk

William Hargrove

I read 4-6 books a month, and I both listen and physically sit down and read. I think they are EQUALLY valid. The spped thing however I kinda agree with. I usually listen to my books at 1.2, and if I'm re listening something I go a max of 1.7. that being said I think people that are pretentious about physical reading vs listening suck and are the worst people involved in any book community on the internet. They tell blind people that they aren't really "reading" and take no account for any kind of disabilities. They suck and you shouldn't share this particular opinion with them (imo). It's gatekeeping.

Jared Nedza

Can we get the marriage consultant to come on to the show

JustKobe

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with audiobooks. I read and listen. But I refuse to let Ludwig think he’s right cause it’s a dumb argument. 1.5x is fast enough. Easier to retain when reading though

butler18

saw the Adam22 comparison coming as soon as he said “Kendama” LMAOO

andi

Im not listening to anything past 1.25x speed unless im bored out of my mind

Kit

don't give up on this months book club book y'all. it's super interesting and a very easy/short read

Tyler Horn

Reading vs listening to a book are obviously very different experiences. But in the least pretentious way possible, I think discounting audio books sets a bad precedent because there are people who physically cannot read but are still able to “read”/understand the book, they’re just digesting it in a different way. It’s something that blind people hear a lot from sighted people, that their form of reading “doesn’t count” which can be pretty offensive, so I just wanted to respectfully push back on that idea

megamindcult

I can’t use audiobooks because I forget to listen to the words.

Maya

yeah I’m a y2k baby and I religiously listen at .25x speed. You literally have it so twisted it’s not even funny pal

Cole Gruca

As a dyslexic the best way for me to enjoy books is audio, I do still read some but mainly through audio nowadays and I listen at 1.15x speed

Thomas Reitwiesner

wild that yall found out about diwali thru the office 😭😭 yall didnt know any indian people growing up??

Anika

People who listen to anything at 1.5x are just dammaged man

Sam F

Jakob Meyer
