As a leftist from rural Appalachia, I really feel the first question. And Nick is spot on, a lot of non-conservatives here end up radicalizing a lot more left than you would think.

Looking back now, I'm realizing how morally grey that was. I was like 12 but they even had kids as young as 7-8 that went there. Some of the stuff I think was fine to sell, like normal candy bars and ice cream, things you couldn't get in the camp cafeteria. But they also sold CDs and religious shirts (not related to the camp itself) and miscellaneous MLM jewelry, etc. In what world is it okay to let a bunch of kids spend potentially hundreds of dollars on a bunch of non camp related stuff?? Wild.
