Development Blog #119

Hi, everyone.

I finished a crowdy scene this week. These are always hard to work with - more character to pose and fix, it's harder to set up the lighting, and the video memory limit always peeks behind your shoulder. Video memory is one of these things that the more of it you have, the more you want. A nice crowd in a public place make the scene more authentic looking and adds to that feeling that there is a world around the main cast of characters.

What do you think? Does such details matter to you? Do you even notice them?

The development pace is decent, but I still haven't managed to take full advantage of the double rig setup. There's still work to do on the update.

That's all for now, back to work. Have fun, and thanks for the support.

That guy is a dick, block him.

Not forcing anyone to support me, Ivan. I'm always saying that if you want to support only when an update is released, that's perfectly fine with me. Keep an eye on the page and when you see an update released, drop a few bucks and get it. Or just wait a month or so and play it for free.

stoperArt

Man , It's such a shame that you are taking money from your patrons and your last update was more than 6 months ago !!

Ivan

哥们,你需要等到12月份再问游戏什么时候发布

LI TAO

No, there's more work to do. When we get close to "almost ready" I'll let you all know. There is a scene with Tommy. Just don't expect him to get too lucky.

stoperArt

I almost commented and said you must be new around here haha. Love your work stoperArt

Justin Roy

Sounds like the update is almost ready~ Is Tommy getting any luck this time?

superwingz

The amount of content is usually the same. It could span over one in-game day or two, but the number of events is more or less the same in every update.

stoperArt

well, at least post another Development Blog maybe? Also i'd like to know how many in-game days will there be in this upcoming update?

superwingz

Believe me, you don't want me giving any release dates. People here will tell you how bad I am with these.

stoperArt

Can't wait for the next updated, which definitly would be great! Please tell us the date when it would release!

superwingz

Yeah, billboards are an option, but they can look very off from a close distance. I use them only for a distant, out of focus characters.

stoperArt

I can't wait to see how Mr. Burch rates Jessica's outfit!

I think even when players don't always notice all the details in a scene, they certainly notice when the details are missing. One of the hallmarks of JOHN is that all the scenes are well populated--not just by people, but objects and small details. Games that don't do that just don't look real.

看情况应该又是一年更新那点一点点

LI TAO

I use a metric fuck ton of billboards, and have created some of my own to fill out spaces. It definitely adds to the atmosphere in a game.

PixelFlynt

I'm always happy to see more realistic crowds and environments. Yes, it adds to the development time but I think it's worth it in the end for a more complete and immersive scene. As always, keep the good work and I look forward to future updates. Also, nice shot of Blake! You stated previously that you were a little wary of putting in images like this but I'm totally down for them!!

MotiMan

It adds to the overall story and quality. Keep it up good job

On the one hand I do notice and appreciate such details. On the other, good stuff ends up on the cutting room floor of most any creative project for practical reasons. Are the details worth it? It's a case by case judgement call. This is not a very helpful comment, is it.

bos

It totally matters. Thanks for putting in the extra effort!

jan

tbh i don't really pay attention to the back ground but less crowd less work less stress

Mideum87

All those "little" details in cafeterias or open environments are always appreciated and give the game a higher quality. Keep it up Stoper! :)

HHUUKK

Na klar ist mir das wichtig soll ja kein 0815 Spiel sein sondern die Qualität muss so beibehalten werden .
