DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Unused (but not useless!) Shasti vs. Rose & Lily roughs
Added 2021-06-02 14:15:33 +0000 UTCRecently unearthed a bunch of unfinished roughs for 2000-era DiD commissions, all of 'em featuring my Dirty Pair villainess Shasti distressing Kei and Y—er, Rose and Lily.
The first rough would've continued an older commission series of "Pirate Shasti" tormenting a wench-ishly costumed Rose & Lily; I posted those earlier pics a year or two ago, but don't have the time to dig up a link to that bygone post.
Note Rose's nose, which was drawn VERY early in my somewhat awkward transition to the artistic approach of "minimal nasal indication"; took me a few years to get that stylistic flourish squared away.
UPDATE: Note also that Pirate Shasti would make for a fine crossover with the likewise nautically themed Hololive vtuber Houshou Marine. "Ahoy, " indeed!
Interestingly enough, one of the roughs (with, please note, an earlier nasal rendering approach) would've continued the reversal-intensive series on con sketches I posted last week:
Howeva, while I never finished this particular sketch, I did end up reusing the damsels' poses for the back-cover illo of 2001's colorized reprint Dirty Pair: SimHell Remastered:
The chair-based image is actually a pretty solid rough, IMHO, though I bungled Lily's admittedly tricky pose by not getting her legs to line up correctly with the ground plane:
And finally, a rough for a proto-Empowered story page which would've featured Lily in office-worker disguise running afoul of Shasti, who would also be rocking office-worker disguise (not that I invested much time in depicting either outfit in this rough):
Can't say for sure, but the mixture of nose styles and Yur—er, Lily's lack of the dreaded Mysteriously Intermittent Post-Millennial Torso Glitch suggest that I must've partially reworked the piece at some point in the late 2000s or early 2010s.
Jeez, just spent well over a g-d hour on this post, cutting severely into my all-important morning shift. Ouch! (Hope you like this one, folks.)

Seeing the rough and the back cover juxtaposed makes it look like the nanogoop somehow turned Shasti into Sleet, which would be a near-Nanoclysm level poor decision on the part of the nanites. The office scene reminds me of my first job, which had essentially no dress code and a policy of hiring former skin magazine models. (To be fair to those whose interests run more male-oriented, they also had a number of former high level athletes) Didn't see anyone get bedamseled while I was there, though.
