It’s cancel culture shaming poor jnj for not being able to use past relevant characters from being relevant sooner, don’t worry! I’m not mad, nobody should be. If it comes to a point where a character can’t be relevant, a refund would be a good solution. I’m counting on seeing them in the future! Sorry to see people don’t have their hopes up and are calling you scammers or greedy for this, me and myself though have always loved supporting the creators of my most humbled favourite show I’ve grew up on and always enjoyed :) take your time with my relevant characters!

Ah thanks for the reply, I have no reason to ask for a refund on Waffle I mean it's not like he's my actual character, hopefully we'll get more from the 5b characters anyways and when that happens I can't wait to see what Waffle looks like (plus I mean now I got my name on the wiki on his page so that's cool). Also I loved the Ondo Mino one, that was awesome. Shame we'll not be seeing rc's anytime soon but it makes sense.

Though I admire your commitment to media preservation, the fact is that that's what the directories looked like. The fully animated portions of BFDIA 6 weren't in that directory, and if I were to guess, this is probably because they only lived on Cary's computer, and would've been transferred only if the episode was actually finished. So, I can see how you might've inferred that it was an intentional list of files to be given out, but honestly it probably really is just what was there, and I can actually confirm that, as those directories were backed up to a local server when BFB started, and none of the animated BFDIA 6 scenes were there. -Satomi

Dear Satomi, Thank you for the timely and in-depth reply and having the willingness to work with the fandom. While what is done, I am happy to provide further context behind recommendations for further understanding. Firstly, I thank you for acknowledging the mentality had with recommended characters that ultimately stemmed to unsatisfactory results, and am happy that you are willing to admit those faults. As for recolor characters, I had one: Tropical Virtual Pet Lizard, which is one that I deliberately asked to be a variation of a character I already recommended; Virtual Pet Lizard. Speaking of that character... As for Tropical Virtual Pet Lizard, you probably are already aware of this, but this character is a "copyright evasion character", which during the end of BFB was something that often happened (e.g. Synthensizer Toy and Brody Foxx, who was actually authorized by Animeme themselves), and I jumped the gun to recommend Online Virtual Pet Lizard to appear in BFB 27, who is a copyright evasion character of a Techo from Neopets. They appeared in said episode, minus the "Online" part. I was very pleased with the result and went ahead and recommended a variation of it, Tropical Virtual Pet Lizard. Again, may already know this, but Tropical Virtual Pet Lizard is a "copyright evasion character" of the Tropical Food Shopkeeper from Neopets. You indicated that the reason why the clothes were ommited was due to it being culturally insensitive. I am willing to agree upon this, as Neopets had an unfortunate habit of having rather hurtful stereotypes of cultures especially the Pacific, which the Tropical Food Shopkeeper was inarguably a caricature of. Even if there are in my opinion, much worse depictions on the site (cannibals are a yikes from me) of these stereotypes and even if the Tropical Food Shopkeeper is among one of the more positive ones, the concern is nevertheless justified and it's understandable to save face here. I could have simply recommended an Origami or Pirate variation, but as that is my favorite character due to the fact I have a stupidly long personal relationship with, that's who I settled with and that's that. Camera's Younger Sister was a character who was decided upon via a vote by users on several Discord servers, with the Patron server being one of them. The same applies to Steampunk Bracelety and Surfer Balloony, who are also previous characters I recommended. I had two goals in mind for the creation of Camera's Youger Sister; first as one of the first "family" characters to appear in BFB as there were a lack if them after BFB 2 (which used IDFB 2 recommendations), second was to have a variation of Camera out there, as they are my favorite TPOT debuter (Does the blue Camera recolor from BFB 15 count as a variation?) In the past, you have said that recommended characters aren't necessarily canon on Twitter on @HazelCricket (which now no longer exists), and that made me think "Okay, then maybe we can have family variations return!" As they were notably absent until now. The fact that you attempted to avoid family characters was something that I, and I assume the rest of the fanbase, wasn't aware of. The rules on what not to recommend were small: Nothing offensive, no copyright, no text. You did admit to this fault however and I am more than willing to forgive you for this. As for Back 2 School Bad News, I'm not so sure about that. The first scene of BFDIA 6 appears to have been fully animated and was notably absent from the list. Ultimately, there's only one person who knows the answer and that's Michael. Perhaps you can ask him about the context for that? There are a few other FLAs besides that that appeared in the video that were advertised to be released besides the RCs, including but not limited to the Spreadshirt designs and Last BFDI. I'd appreciate it if we can get closure on this 5 year mystery. Again, I thank you for your time and willingness to work with the fans. Have a nice day. - Sam

Recommended characters won't be returning any time soon (we're "closing up shop" for those). As for Waffle, we attempted to make a new waffle design but they all came out worse than the original, which I thought was fine as it was. However I see now that this went against the spirit of your recommendation, and can hardly be considered "high quality". To make up for this mistake, we're inviting you to refund your pledge using the above form. So sorry for the letdown! -Satomi

I think most of these issues stem from the flawed approach I took with the patreon recommended characters. Namely that they should be treated like the season 1 recommended characters, who I now realize had the important distinction of NOT being related to money. This is what resulted in my approach of recolors and reusing old assets. If your recommended character was a recolor, you can request a refund, and I apologize for not taking them seriously enough. So, as for the tropical pet lizard, we avoided the bones and stuff due to the fact that it all seemed culturally insensitive. However yes, the tail blending in with the background was my fault. I'm sorry that I went with a recolor approach for that. For Camera's Younger Sister, the problem stems from my inappropriate attitude toward "family" style recommended characters, which was to avoid them if possible. This couldn't be 100% avoided, of course, and any that did appear I like to think that's just a really weird name of theirs, but like, for example if someone recommends 3 times in a month for some reason, I'm going to have to pick one, and in that situation I usually picked whichever one wasn't "family". Thus, since we knew the patreon would be ending in February, I had the attitude that we could just go with any that got recommended instead of the February ones, which was a mistake, and I apologize. Regarding the back 2 school bad news video, I think Michael probably just wrote a quick program that turned a file hierarchy into a list of files, that he could use as a chunky visual for the video, so it probably just contained everything in a certain directory. Thank you for bringing up these issues with the recommendation process, Sam. If recommending comes back, I'll be sure to adjust the structure as well as my own attitude to prevent these things from happening again. -Satomi

Would high quality recommended characters still be able to be generally asked for? I personally used that to get the crew to redraw more obscure BFDI characters (e.g. my recommendation of Ondo Mino and Waffle (though the Waffle one didn't pan out and he ended up being copy pasted from his BFDIA rec)) so if that ends then I probably won't be able to do that anymore which would suck.
