After Dark: Warriors Concept Album, Baked Potato Toppings, How We Plan Movie Reviews

The Filmcast: After Dark is the bonus show where we talk about a variety of random topics that didn't make it into the main podcast - including your questions and what's going on in our lives.

In this episode, David, Devindra, and Jeff discuss the Warriors concept album, what toppings they'd use on baked potato, and how we plan movie reviews.

I probably prefer the music of Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters to that of the Oneders, but tastes may vary 😎

David — along with Devendra & Jeff, to a lesser degree —talks about baked potatoes with a LOT of animal products… which leads me to refer you to my previous rant here (sometime ago) in favor of GOING VEGAN!

J Hay

Oh my God I am so glad you guys talked about Dave's pronunciation of "won!" It was driving me crazy, 'cause I know all of you (well, mostly Jeff and Dave) are so pedantic about words, but this was somehow never mentioned until now.

Given how he’s somewhat of a foodie

Reynaldo K. Cruz

He’s just a purist I think he’s not unfamiliar with the practice

Reynaldo K. Cruz

The British found a way to mess up baked potatoes.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Jeff is paid to talk about movies, and at times he is both unprepared to discuss them and unwilling to hear about them on personal principle. Seems unfair to Dave and Devindra.

Shampoo Man

Remember that this is a 7 card stud style game ... he was tracking a pair of 10's and didn't notice that 5 different cards completed a flush.

Richard Doyle

Right. Was the mistake that people didn’t know a flush beat a straight? Or that he was chasing a different hand and never realized he had a flush?

Per

OMG! Did Dave just spoil Trap for me?? I’ve not seen it yet and I love me some Shyamalan… ☹️

Jenis Mistry

Hot take: they don’t view themselves as serous critics as well, pretty sure ;)

Mountain of Conflict

Spoiler alert for Jeff this week: ROBERT PATTINSON stars in Bong Joon-ho’s new movie MICKEY 17!

CDMatthew

How is it disrespectful?

April Reid

Out of the bad takes I’ve seen in these threads over the last few years this could be the worst

Mark P

Hot take but Jeff isn't a serious movie critic because of his "unsullied" nonsense... it's pretty disrespectful to his co-hosts as well.

Shampoo Man

Regarding Baked potatoes, here in the UK, a comedian Matt Lucas (he was in Alice in Wonderland and Gladiator II actually) made a whole thing about it during COVID... there's a rabbit hole after watching the following: https://youtu.be/yYOkgCkxj9I?si=wvuupT24SmxXVvou

@Devindra Butter has a very low lactose content – I'm pretty intolerant and I can have it, no problem.

Patrick Neon

I have to say thank you so much for letting me know about "The Warriors" musical. Big fan of L.M.M. and the warriors and have listened to it twice already. Always love you guys, but this brought special joy into my life.

Stevie Maggots

Consider me one of the listeners that is down for the after dark poker content!

Andre

Sounds like David does not have much experience eating at Texas style BBQ joints. It's commonplace at such places to have loaded baked potatoes that include your choice of a barbequed meat, with the idea being that the entire potato + meat + other toppings is a full meal in the confines of this potato. Definitely worth trying.

Papool Chaudhari

Listener: You pronounce 'won' as 'wan'? Dave: Yes! It's a...regional dialect. Listener: Uh huh. What region? Dave: Uh, the east coast. Listener: Well, I'm from the east coast and I've never heard anyone pronounce it 'wan.'

Sarah Rosenberg

One vs Won vs Wan convo made me think of this 10 year old Pete Holmes stand up bit. https://www.instagram.com/peteholmes/reel/CdL3XNLp_Rp/?hl=en

Thank you so much for reading my question about Trap, on the After Dark, but I truly want to say that it was not in anyway meant to be a question to pick on Jeff and his choice to be "Unsullied" I completely understand why he does it, and to be honest the way he goes about it now it reminds me of a line from Jack Reacher 2012, "Well, you could say it started out as an exercise and became an addiction.", but I digress, I truly just wanted to know how the discussion goes in picking the movies for the main review, and what type of information you put out there for Jeff or Devindra or David. And you also answered that, you try to respect Jeff's request as best you can and mostly it's David and Devindra that decide. Thank you again for the great show and answering my question.

Mitchipedia

Great episode y’all. One correction. This isn’t the Tatercast. That’s the MAIN show. This is the after show - Twice Baked.

Drew Bonner Music

Is there a name for fans of the podcast? Should we be called "taters"? I feel like Jeff will use it a lot, if so.

Daniel C

I was waiting for a That Thing You Do! reference, but there was not ONE to be found.

Rob

The guy with the flush who lost to the guy with the straight… We need way more information. If it went all the way to the river what did the guy with the flush think he had such that he didn’t try to claim the pot that was rightfully his? I have so many questions.

Luke Johnson

I have this visual in my head of Dave and Devindra leading Jeff blindfolded to each movie they see. Devindra is smiling with eyes wide open and Dave has sunglasses on and is shading his eyes so he doesn’t see trailers.

Tyler Sexton

You guys WON my heart again this week

Mark Marinaro

Thank you, Devindra, for defending the Apple TV remote. I’ve been absolutely confounded since the initial discussion about Jeff’s vitriol for the ability to locate the pause button in a dark room. As someone who is incredibly particular about this type of stuff, I love using the current iteration of the remote and have never had any difficulty using it under any conditions. Also, the big circle in the middle of the direction pad can pause whatever you’re watching. Edit: Sorry I posted this before hearing Dave’s response about the big button. Thank you so much for giving me something silly to get frustrated about during these dark days.
