Dungeon Novel: Chapter Thirty-Five

The Warrior Deer were some of the strongest anti-Undead defenders within his Dungeon. If Unbound could set up rooms and tunnels designed to assist the deer with their charges, then the Undead would be mowed down by their assault.

The ability to charge in a straight line is extremely common, what the deer had as an advantage was the fact that they were naturally more nimble and able to stop quickly or turn for another charge. Unbound wanted to have a host of various evolved creatures for future themed floors, from his mortal life he had heard most Dungeons tended to be consistent with how they built their floors. The floors grew stronger over time, but people could get deja-vu from moving through a floor.

Shifting out the deer chamber for another defender he then moved his attention to his new guests and finally getting more information from his other residents. Unbound had a feeling that they might know of the noble as well and gave Elvinia a small carved stone bearing the noble’s appearance.

“Elvinia, can you get some more answers from our guests please.” He asked the fairy. She gave a small nod and flew out of the core room, on her way to the third floor. Unbound created the fifth floor as she went and subconsciously began filling it with matter to create another floor as he focused on the conversation.

Residence Caverns – Third Floor

‘Living inside an immortal murder machine was not as bad as I thought’ Beda muttered to herself as she traced mana patterns on the skeleton in front of her. Infinite materials with no moral issues to obtain them, its what every starting Necromancer wants.

Whilst she didn’t get along with two of her neighbors, she didn’t tend to leave her own room much anyway. The Dungeon had created a small kitchen within her room, and she could order an Undead to cook for her from the small selection of meat, vegetable, and fruit the Dungeon gave.

All she had done was experiment with her abilities, Necromancers were rare and most famously male and so her being female Necromancer had thrown people. People unlocked a class at their tenth birthday, and they could be completely random or follow the parentage, royalty tended to get a class based on ruling and commanding as an example.

However, as a Necromancer she was not allowed to practice her abilities with her family, and it was only due to her heritage she was not immediately exiled or executed. As it was, she could see people anymore and she had eventually run off to try and find the Necromancer Guild, for people like her.

Before she could get further lost in her memories a small bell rang in the main part of the residence pulling her away from her work. She dusted herself off and walked out of her room to greet the visiting Dungeon fairy.

The violet-colored being had sat in one of the small chairs provided and Shielen, Ayren, and Elva were seated opposite her. Beda sat herself in one of the chairs close to the fairy and greeted Elvinia.

“Hello, Elvinia how are you today?” Shielen said politely after Beda had seated herself.

“I am fine, but I have decided to come and talk to you about another matter. Earlier there was another attack and the attackers were a set of knights and two mages led by a noble. They seemed to be looking for someone or something.” The fairy said intently, looking at all of their faces in turn.

Beda watched as Shielen’s face went slightly paler, it was almost imperceptible but both Beda and Elvinia likely noted the reaction.

“You know?” Asked the fairy. Shielen found her voice and responded.

“I have a suspicion; did you kill them.” Elvinia shook her head in response.

“No, the noble utilized the abilities of a space mage to escape the Dungeon but I have a small image of him.” The fairy revealed a small plaque of stone with a face carved into it. It seemed somewhat familiar to Beda, but she couldn’t place it.

“That is Daniel, Heir of Duke Broksen. He is my cousin, and he is second in line for the throne of the Iatior Kingdom.” Shielen said slowly in the face of the poker-faced fairy.

“Explain.” The tone brooked no argument as the fairy looked at the Priestess with a cold gaze. Shielen listened and explained.

Part of it Beda already knew, that Shielen was part of the Iatior’s royal family but did not receive the Monarch class and instead was a Priestess. What she didn’t know was how her younger brother had sold her hand in marriage to a neighboring kingdom without her knowledge.

When Shielen found out she took the mission to go and find out about the Deadlands, taking her royal bodyguards with her. It was possible that Daniel had been sent to try and find her so the marriage could go ahead.

Elvinia waited with an unreadable expression and was likely in contact with the Core Spirit of the Dungeon even as Shielen talked. As Shielen finished up her explanation Elvinia nodded and took to the air.

“Do not worry that you will be thrown out of the Dungeon, we took you in and will not throw you out. However, you will find a stack of paper. You will be asked to write out about the Iatior kingdom and about the Church.” Without giving Shielen a chance to reply she flew out of the room.

Core Room – Fourth Floor

Unbound withdrew his focus from the residence cavern and pushed his focus to building the fifth floor, once it was built it would be likely that he could get a new level of stronger monsters from the Shop to resist the Undead.

However, before he devoted his attention to the task he noticed something outside of his Dungeon.

With his new level and the power that came with it, Unbound could see out of his territory and beyond, he could see outside of his Dungeon where a motley group of Adventurers stood. They seemed worn and weary with signs of a prior battle and difficult traveling. Unbound could hear them as they muttered to each other.

From what he could hear it seemed the war had started between the Undead and the kingdoms of the sentient races, and the kingdoms were not prepared to fight.
