This week, we cover possibly our most embattled and empaneled mayor, Willy Lantigua. Municipal meeting minutes include: Coconut water poisoning, dkdkflflfiffnfkrdjheb, Time to Embattlement (TTE), Deputy Neelix, The (International) Garbage Truck Conspiracy, the mayor that marries you, and a real smoothed-out town.

Historical note about the labor struggles in Lawrence, MA: The slogan "Bread and Roses" is associated with 1912 strikes there.

2025-05-30 12:38:02 +0000 UTCmakes me proud to be a resident of the great commonwealth of massachusetts... a story about how being a massachusetts guy is not about where you're born, it's about how good you are at drinking with the boys, doing small time corruption, jokingly threatening violence, seriously threatening violence, being friends with cops wokely, things of this nature

2025-05-30 03:26:33 +0000 UTCYay! Thank you! I lived in Lawrence during Lantigua's mayorality and I had forgotten half of this nonsense because it was, truly, constant absurdity and badness (like the publishing of the recall list.) The fire station closures were extremely chaotic but he wasn't entirely wrong? One firefighter getting terminated for not showing up for work when his FMLA ran out because his wife hadn't died yet (she died on Tuesday when he was ordered to return on Monday) while other guys were collecting disability while working full-time construction jobs (extremely common firefighter stuff.) A neighbor owned a restaurant and lived in fear of getting on Lantigua's bad side. The school thing with Wilfredo Laboy also involved pizza contract corruption. It was impossible to keep up with it all at the time.
