We were just about to finally tell you about our new updated reward system, which will surely make you happy, but we need to tell you something else first.
We’ve been contacted by a company named Digital Interruption, which had been conducting independent research on the security of a number of virtual reality applications. As part of their research, they uncovered a security hole in our system that would allow hackers to get a list of emails from our database. They gave us ample warning before publishing their finding and we started working on fixing the issue right away.
To clarify, we don’t have any information in our database related directly to your Patreon account (name, email, password, PayPal or credit card). The only information that was determined to be accessible is whatever email and name you used when you created a SinVR account. Digital Interruption has confirmed that the security hole outlined in their finding has been closed. We have no reason to believe that any data has been compromised.
Altogether, it has been an interesting learning experience, which will serve to enhance our security and we are glad that it was conducted ethically. Moving forward, we are confident in our ability to prevent security holes and will keep using a professional security service to audit our system. We are making sure that all ‘back door’ intrusions are fully consensual!
