Regarding sales tax...
Added 2020-05-20 20:23:53 +0000 UTCThis mostly concerns US patrons, EU citizens don't really need to read this, since EU VAT is already included for everyone living in the EU.
I'm sure everyone of you got a mail from patreon already, so I'll make this as short as possible.
Starting Juli 1st, patreon will add sales tax to the amount pledged by patrons depending on the county the patron lives in and what kind of benefit is included in the tiers the patron pledges to.
Patreon states that "we’re being required by law to start adding sales tax to more patron pledges"... so there's not much I can do about it.
I'm not really sure if sales tax apply for any of the benefits I'm offering, the explanation patreon is giving to us is quite vague, but to give you an idea of what to expect if sales tax apply:
Rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents.
My $5 Tier should not require sales tax and the $10 and $20 Tiers should be on the lower end with the benefits I'm offering IF sales tax apply.
Patreon doesn't list the benefits I'm offering, but I guess the closest would be:
"Exclusive Community Access" which is "Exempt in majority of states"
and
"Downloadable Digital Goods" which is "Taxable in roughly half the states"
^ I'm, not sure if this applys to a test version though, but we'll see.
So, as I said, IF sales tax apply, it should be really low.
