August Updates
Added 2025-09-06 18:48:49 +0000 UTCHi guys,
I hope you're all well! I've had a super busy month. I finished my job a few weeks ago and had a break in between where I was visiting family in Ireland. I started on Monday and am now back on holiday in France and then Spain! My new job is my first psychology role which is also very exciting.
In between I've managed to record and edit the voiceover for the video and begin editing the video itself. I don't have my laptop with me for this trip but will be back home and able to knuckle down next week. My new job will be busier with a longer commute and not a huge amount of time in the evenings to get work done but I'm going to get as much as I can done in the first few weeks while things are quieter. More updates to follow! Thank you all for sticking with me through this.
Otherwise this month, I (finally) read Nagata Kabi's My Solo Exchange Diary as I accidentally bought the sequel to it years ago after reading My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness. I don't know if I'll continue with the series after I read the third book but it's definitely a uniquely vulnerable and meaningful set of works.
I also listened to the second series of The Retrievals, a podcast investigating women's often extremely damaging experiences with reproductive health. It's extremely well-written, produced and thought-provoking and I really recommend it. I learned a lot from it.
Finally, I saw the documentary Fire of Love about Katia and Maurice Krafft, the French volcanologists. The film had incredible visuals and music and really moved me in how it discussed the environment and our relationship to it. Also recommended.
In terms of videos, this one from Pop Culture Detective was great: https://youtu.be/kpvpadX5mwM?si=QWi03jX3Csd7A7Im

I recently read My Solo Exchange Diary as well! I love Nagata Kabi's two tone artstyle and how deeply vulnerable she is willing to be, it's very touching
