I've created a collection of node groups that serve a variety of functions in helping me build materials at a faster pace.
Using node groups in your own files:
Either copy and paste the sphere object from the NodeTools.blend file into your own scene (this will transfer the object and material containing all of the nodes), or go to File -> Append, choose the NodeTools.blend file, go to the NodeTree folder and append your nodes of choice. Alternatively, add the downloadable blend...
Note: Modular Workspaces 1.7 for Blender 4.0+ is now available.
Modular Workspaces for Blender is a combination of an addon and asset library file designed to speed up your startup workflow.
Drag and drop pre-made collection assets from the asset browser into your scene, and with the press of a single button, Modular Workspaces will recenter, unpack and organize all of the imported assets into new...
The purpose of this module is to simplify the use of the Blender API (bpy) by creating an extra layer of abstraction that is more human-readable, memorable and reduces the user's exposure to complex code paths.
EasyBPY can be added to Blender by installing it into the (../scripts/modules) folder in the user preferences. The file can also be re-packaged with any oth...
Here is a package containing my default startup file and custom theme for Blender. Feel free to take them and modify them however you like. I will try to keep this package updated over time as I make more changes.
To set the startup file, use 'File -> Defaults -> Save Startup File'.
Note: Some features may function unexpectedly in Blender 4.0 until a corrective update is released.
(Make sure to restart Blender after removing the previous version) Note: V9.2 contains a fix for import issues on Mac and Linux systems in Blender 3.4.
BY-GEN is a multipurpose toolkit designed to help people create artwork utilizing generative techniques within Blender.
This package includes a blend file containing a variety of useful materials for Blender.
Add this file to one of your asset library folders to be able to drag them into your blend scenes using the asset browser. Check (Edit - Preferences - File Paths) to create and manage new asset libraries. You can also append the materials from the file directly by using File - Append.
This package contains a blend file with the simple Corroded Copper and Foil materials ready for you to dissect and play around with. The corroded copper provides an interesting example of how detail and color can build up as a single value changes, wherea...
Ok bear with me on this one. We spend so much time trying to reduce render noise but sometimes it feels appropriate to add some grain on top of a finished render for artistic effect. So here's a blend file that exploits Cycles' difficulty with sampling volumes to create grain textures which you can then export and use in any image editing software you like.
I've also attached some pre-rendered textures for you at 1920x1080 :)
This is a template scene including my custom placeholder object that I use to test procedural hard surface materials. Feel free to use it for your own material creations.
It's making use of some of my recent experiments with EEVEE atmospherics, including using realtime volumetrics and floating emissive particles. Make sure to take a look at the text editor window for a readme with a bit more information.
Here is a collection of pre-made emissive lighting objects and demo scenes that you can use to quickly construct beautiful lighting scenes using emissive material lighting. Copy objects over from the master file into your scene and rapidly prototype new lighting layouts.
Check the text editor window in the main file to find a tip explaining how to hide the meshes for emissive lighting objects (in case you don't want them to be visible from the camera).
This resource package contains a master blend file with a library of lighting presets separated into different collections. I've put this file together to provide myself with a good starting point for grabbing a nice render of a newly-created character model. In the initial version of this file, there are two types of lighting setup called 'Surround' and 'Back Rim' - both have 6 color presets which comprise some of my favorite combinations.
This package contains a collection of demo files showing a variety of often-overlooked yet extremely powerful lighting features in the Cycles rendering engine for Blender 2.82+.

This is my custom theme for versions of Blender 2.8. There are some subtle changes to the default dark theme that suit my preferences. Most of these changes are focused on scripting.
Text Editor - Comments have been made bright cyan to make them easier to identify compared to the rest of the code. I didn't like how the original comments were more subtle. I prefer brighter comments because I often use them to navigate the code. - Important syntactical language features ...
This package contains the demonstration .blend files showcasing my script for generating random gun concepts in Blender 2.8 and 2.9, as shown in the accompanying video:
