Sorry for the delayed post today, was kind of a hectic day on my end with IRL stuff.
Overall the public release went pretty well. One kind of funny thing was that I hadn't realized it seems that the new controller and keyboard binds were verry much a public desire rather than a patron one, based on the fact that there were several horrible bugs with that feature that no one noticed on the patreon release. XD This is, of course, ultimately my fault for not adequately testing them, but i...
To start, for anyone who missed it, I released a new Lorena art preview to Count+ tier!
Lorena's base art is now done. There are some outfits that need doing still, but I've a few other things that I'm putting ahead of those. Art is always kind of a balancing act, divided between what's urgent for the current update, which routes have had the most art benefits so far, and which things I've be...
A somewhat better week overall. Finally got that retrospective posted yesterday. XD
There was an annoying bug this update that was screwing up a few cutscenes that used snoke and mirrors to change which character was showing as the player character, including the very intro, which was annoying. Thankfully, think I finally got that fixed (thanks to Rachnera for some help with the debugging and keeping me from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory there XD).
Once again, posting this for Baron+ tier, like the One-Year Retrospective from last year if you weren't here for that one.
Time is weird. It’s honestly very strange to me that it’s been two years since I did the first big public release of Noblesse. On some level, it feels like less than that, but on another level it feels like it’s been forever that I’ve been working on this. These d...
Had a fair amount of annoying IRL stuff, sadly. Nothing individually too bad, but all together it was just a lot. :/ Didn't end up feeling up to writing the two year retrospective, but I will do that sometime this week for sure. I do want to, it just takes a decent amount of mental energy to sit down and compose something more structured like that.
On a somewhat related note, my birthday is this Wednesday. Feels weird that that's come around again alre...
The Dominion of Al-Kerath was supposed to be a land of opportunity—but instead, it needed a liberator.
When his sorcery and his heritage conspired to close off Leo's path in life, he left all he knew behind to seek his fortune in Heliopolis, the shining gem of the desert, with no more than the clothes upon his back and a single tome of secrets. What he found instead was a be...
I'm very glad for that. Seems like those who have gotten through have enjoyed it, and the gamebreaking bugs were minimal. Except, you know, the one I caught myself back at the start. XD I think this was a pretty good chapter myself, so the response pleases me. As an aside, if you have a reddit account and a free moment, an upvote for visibility would be helpful here:
If I'm being honest, I may have pushed a bit too hard this time. Still, the update is looking very good, so I can't say I really regret it. XD I'm just looking forward to being able to crash when it's done. I'll definitely need to take a longer break with how tired I am, but that's probably fine, I just wanted to be sure I could this update out in a reasonable timeframe after just how much the last one went long.
The final wordcount, after various additions, is...
I'm not quiite done, there's one more small but important bit I need to write. I needed to take a break yesterday, though, because I wrote 26,302 words last week and I was really exhausted. XD Unless I'm remembering wrong, that is also a new record for how much I've done in a week.
EDIT: Really really sorry about this. I miscounted weeks when giving my tentative release date. It's going to be November 7th, not October 31st. When I was counting the days, didn't count the necessary week of testing properly. Sadly even if I pushed as hard as possible, I don't think I could do the 31st in practice. :/ To be clear, this is not a delay in terms of me being behind, just a mistake when I was calculating the time I need for the...
Alright, I think I have momentum going for the update now.
As you can see, I got about 17-18k done this week, which I think is good progress. Assuming I can keep up this pace, which I very much hope to, then I should be through this update's writing in two or three more weeks. I'm hoping for two, but never entirely safe to be sure on that, hah. There is still a good amount to get...
Overall, I got enough done that I feel a lot closer to caught up, which makes me feel better in general. I'd hoped to hit 20k this weekend, but this is close enough to not feel bad about, and I had some fun emergent ideas that I look forward to people seeing.
I'm still dealing with IRL stuff, so things aren't great, but just not feeling massively behind make...
While I'm still not quite where I want to be, this was a better week overall.
I managed to finish up most of the asset work I needed for this update (making new character assets etc.) and get a real start on the writing. Hoping I can push through with that this week. I'm still not feeling the best, but it's better than it was, and experience tells me that the best way to feel better is to feel productive. Not much drags me down like feeling I'm not getting enough done, heh.
Sadly, this week was less productive than I'd hoped for.
That definitely isn't to say I got nothing done, I did mostly finish up the surprise I mentioned. I also did some things on my longtime todo list, including sitting down to implement controller and key rebinding support. The latter isn't quite done because I ran into some weird issues near the end, but I'm confident that I'll get those sorted before the actual release.
The second major longstanding todo that I finally got do...
Alright, here's that writing preview I promised! This includes 10 chapters (prelude + Ch 1-9). It's about 47k words and 142 pages (in word), and I think it gives a pretty good idea of the story.
Preliminary back cover copy:
"If there is aught you desire, you will needs but devise a design by which to take it—for, with my power, naught shall truly be beyond your reach." The allure of that promise would never have been small, and yet, there is much indeed for a man to desire in th...
I made some pretty good progress on mapping this week.
Making castles has always been one of my favorite parts of making the game. They're a bit hard to show fully on one screen, which is sad in terms of showing them off, but I can at least offer a preview that I like to think captures a bit of the coolness of one:
Obviously, Alexander being there is just me debug teleporting. XD
The Avalonian Calendar is a topic I’ve wanted to write about for some time, but one of the prerequisites was going through and being sure everything was consistent.
That’s something I’ve done now, complete with finishing naming. We’ll start out with days of the week. The style of this lore post is also going to be a little more conversational than usual, because there’s more I’d like to convey from a fully meta standpoint.
Public update went pretty well this week, I think. A few bugs, enough that I'll be releasing a hotfix later today.
Those are mostly pretty minor, but I made a really annoying mistake an un-fixed the most reported patreon bug because I forgot why it was changed in the first place, so I got to have x5+ more reports of that one.
Things are on track for the public release this Friday. I've replayed most of the game and made a lot of fixes to early content. May or may not get through the rest before friday, we'll see, but even if I don't, I've been through the parts that are old enough to be most in need of re-checking and improvement.
I had some disruption in my other work this week. Nothing that actually should change my situation right away, so I'm not su...
I've been working on changes for public release this week. For starters, I updated the patreon version with some new stuff, including the new choice that was discussed/won the poll. Aside from that, I've been polishing old content a bit. I improved the opening scroll a bit, as well as improving the Avalonia ruins, Avalonia highway, and one district of of Hypernia (only a small amount on this one, removing some dead space). A small sample:
This has been a somewhat fractured break in various ways, between my struggles to find something really compelling to do and the growing temptation to try to mess with some pure writing on the side in my nonexistent spare time. Unlike some other creators, I don't really tend to have a lot of multitasking ability, so something like that isn't natural to me, but I'm feeling pretty negative toward my other work right now, so there's a lot of temptation to write something just a bit more...
First things first, I posted a poll for count-tier regarding the possibility of a new choice in the latest chapter. This one will only be open until the 14th.
Had kind of a rough week last week, which is annoying for break, but irl stuff happens when it wants to, heh. Still got some reading in. I do miss reading. It would be hard to express just how much reading I did in my youth. These days...
Edit: Forgot to mention this morning, but the Crownloyalist Wiki page is mostly updated now.
Release has gone pretty well, I think. Despite the crazy size, we've had fewer bugs than usual I think. My thanks to those who reported, and for everyone who's played and shared their thoughts. ^^
So, as I noted in the release notes, I'll be taking an extra week to take this one public. Th...
Chapter 15 is here! And it's an incredible behemoth of an update, heh. I definitely hope everyone enjoys! I'll be out for a while, but I should be back this evening if any issues arise. As ever, feedback is welcome, either here or on the discord! If on the discord, please use the patreon-only channels.
It's been two weeks, so I'm opening this to knight-tier as usual. In addition, I've m...
All ahead full on the update. XD; Final wordcount:
Frankly, as much as there were things I really didn't want to push ahead again so I'm glad I did this, I think I pushed a little too far this time. XD Finishing and testing this has been consuming and exhausting. While it was also fun, I definitely can't afford to put this level of investment in often until I'm able to actually work on game stuf...
I am about 98% done with the writing, which is 2% less than I wish I was since I've definitely hit the point of flaming out on that. XD;; But I wrote essentially 20k words this week, so it's been... a lot, haha.
This may work its way up to 125k as I finish up and add items/combat/etc., hard to say right now. Either way, very clearly the new longest update (previous longest was 105k for v0.14)...
