RIFT-AW67

An early experimental spaceship. Built as a test-bed for WF technology experiments. Eventually it paved the way for a type of hybrid WF Drive. Thrust was still provided by fusion engines - made more efficient by WF containment fields, but the WF technology itself provided an inertialess bubble of space for the ship. So although the speed was still limited by the fusion engines, it was no longer limited by the amount of G-forces the occupants could withstand.

For the WFW book, I created a bunch of little character silhouettes - mainly to give scale to the ship data sheets. As part of Weird Field War, I wanted to take those silhouettes a bit further, so I've created much more detailed character silhouettes. I've actually produced so many, that they're going to become a product I hope to sell to indie game makers.
But, the main reason for them is to add something to WF War.

Sketchbook Spaceships

I've drawn so many spaceships by now, that I don't sketch anything out first in pencil. I just got straight to ink and see what comes out. What I enjoy about this, is the fact I don't really know what I'm drawing until I'm a few minutes in. Also - paper with a bit of texture, in this case Daler Rowney heavyweight cartridge, does make for nice close-up photos!

Huge spacestations relying on WF tech. Often kilometres long, with crew complements in the thousands. Usually positioned at strategic points throughout the solar system. The Waystations became incredibly important during the war.

Evolution not revolution

After the messages and the instruction sets had stopped - or more accurately once humanity had realised they'd stopped - the scientists and engineers of earth went in to overdrive trying to hack WF tech.

Towards the end of the 23rd century, humankind had already made progress in this area. Some limited WF ships had been built without alien blueprints, but they were pretty limited. Only in the latter years of that century did science really manage to crack WF physics. The resulting ships...

Space Racer No. 03.

Designed for the GTFX Racing Series around the cloud-tops of Jupiter. Weird Field Engineering creates a racer with exceptional speed and manoeuvrability while protecting the pilots in an inertialess cockpit. 

Something of a mid-point between a genuine WF ship and the traditional fusion ships of the pre-WF era, these racers put on a fantastic show. The Drive plume is incandescently bright, often trailing many kilometres behind the ships.

Hi all,

Hope you're all staying well. I'm afraid, through a combination of busyness on my day job, and helping my wife with her wedding flowers business (all gone a bit crazy since the end of lockdown), I'm struggling to find time to write or draw any WFW content.
