Tomorrow's video was already long... and then I decided to rant about the MIT license, Libtertarianism, and whatever the hell else. I decided to cut it. So, directly from the cutting room floor, check out the video above!

Well, it seems Audacity has responded to the backlash from last week's telemetry fiasco. If you don't know what happened there's a video here about it... but to get you up to speed:
One of Audacity's developers issued a pull request which would integrate some opt-in telemetry collection into the software.
While there were definitely people who were up in arms about the idea that a free software project could collect telemetry, most people were more concerned that...

A few days ago, Gabe Newell was doing a Q&A session at Sancta Maria College in Auckland New Zealand. During that session, a student asked "will Steam be porting any games to console or will it just stay on PC?"
According to reports, Newell was a bit reluctant but replied "You will get a better idea of that by the end of this year." He then followed up with "and it won't be the answer you expect. You'll say 'Ah-ha! Now I get what he was talking about."
Now, obviously... Gabe wa...

Oof. Did Audacity just make a big, huge no-no? I'm gonna be honest, I have a video in the works about Audacity (it will probably be out this wednesday, actually) but I had to talk about this and it couldn't wait.
So last week YouTuber Tantacrul announced that Audacity--the free and open source audio editing software--was now part of Muse Group. I had heard that Muse Group had also acquired the free and open source Musescore scorewriting software just a little while before hand and was c...

"Linux community." It's a term I've used a lot on this channel--and it's a term that has gotten some heat, recently.
Most of the criticism I've heard comes from this isolationist mindset that "There's no such thing as the Linux Community because you can't have a community made out of people you've never met."
And I guess if you wanted to read the dictionary entry for "community" and then deliberately pick the definition that is least applicable to its usage here, you might be able...

> GUYS. I've got my lineup for the next week, but I just wrote this and now I'm wondering where I should actually place it in the lineup? Maybe Wednesday and push the FCC video to Saturday?
Before ANYONE seriously accuses me of being a "Valve fanboy." No. I'm not. I've been both highly critical and quite complementary of Valve since the beginning of this channel. I didn't get in on the Steam game until Steam came to Linux. I'm not wistful for the days when Steam would have...

A 3 year old piece of Linux-specific malware has avoided widespread detection until just a few days ago. Dubbed RotaJakiro by the team that discovered it, Qihoo 360 Netlab, the malware has been targeting 64-bit Linux systems since 2018.
On March 25th, RotaJakiro was detected when one of Netlab's botnet tracking tools (called BotMon) flagged a file as suspicious.
There had been no reported detections on VirusTotal for the specific file--despite four separate samples having been sub...

Two weeks ago I posted a video about Windows Updates that have harmed user's computers and productivity.
These Windows Updates get pushed, regardless of their negative impact, and Microsoft seems to not care at all--having slashed staffing in their product quality and testing teams.
In yet another example of how Free and Open Source Software is superior and the Linux Way™ makes for a better user experience, let's examine Ubuntu's 21.04 release and how Canonical handled a major p...
