Fixated on the praying mantis
Added 2025-11-10 15:42:48 +0000 UTCA couple weeks ago, my wife caught a praying mantis in our back yard and she's been bringing her in to our classroom. Her second graders love the praying mantis (it's become a class pet) and she recently laid an egg, which they they think is really cool. My wife brings her home every night and our cats recently discovered the terrarium.
They're fascinated by the praying mantis and I'm pretty sure they both want to turn her into a snack.
Last year, my then 11-year-old son found a praying mantis in our front yard and send me this text (last image). When I read it, I was like, "WHAT??" Total auto correct fail. It still cracks me up.

2025-11-11 22:45:18 +0000 UTCCoincidentally, i had my own praying mamtis incident 9 days ago. After leaving a restaurant, a praying mantis was on our windshield. It fought hard even while cruising down the highway. He/she eventually peeled off after a couple of miles, never to be seen again.

2025-11-11 20:32:16 +0000 UTCI didn't know they kill hummingbirds. Good to know. We have a lot of hummingbirds in our back yard. If I see a praying mantis on the hummingbird feeder, I'm moving it!

2025-11-11 14:00:47 +0000 UTCI think the praying mantis is very cool. We found one in our celosia a couple of weeks ago when we were cleaning up the flower beds. The frost killed off the last of the flowers, so we were surprised to see the praying mantis. It was a green one. Not very active. I am not as nice as your wife. I don’t “like” them because I found out they kill hummingbirds :( I did take several pictures of him though. Looks so “alien like”. And auto correct can be quite hilarious sometimes!! 🤣 and your kitties look very determined- like mine were when we had a fish tank ;)
