Thank you & update!

Hi Folks,

Thank you so much for your patience with the release of the next few videos. As it happens I went on a bit of a journey engraving the Watchmaker's Faceplate, and it ended up taking a tremendous amount of time to complete. The good news is that I filmed all of it, so I have a fun chill-out engraving video in the works too.

Again, thanks for your patience, I will have them out as soon as they are complete.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thank you & update!

Yes the long one is indeed quite long, it is already well over an hour of start-to-finish engraving footage, with still a bit more to shoot for the end to tie it all up in a coherent ending - Cheers :)

I'm looking forward to the chill out video! Can I ask if you're intending to do any further videos on the Dial Indicator build Chris?

Mark Slatter

That looks fantastic

Alex Pretty

Now that was a little bit overboard...I love it!

Kevin Reardon

Goddamn, Chris, that engraving is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the video showing us your arduous hour eye to complete it. Thanks for always giving us your best content, it's greatly appreciated.

It’s interesting how distinctive your style is when you haven’t been doing this all that long. Just from the little I’ve seen in your other videos, I’d have known this was your work instantly (well, obviously I’d recognise the faceplate so some other workpiece you’d never shown that was in no usual way ‘Clickspringy*’ to really test it). Keep on with whatever you want to do, that’s the point of having this support from us after all. We’ll be waiting whenever you have something new to show us. 👍 *Not strictly a word yet but may be if you continue dazzling us with your excellent work. I’ve watched quite a lot of Tested videos recently and you’re living in Adam Savage’s head rent-free! Several different videos when he’s shown the finish of metal workpieces especially in brass, he’s had to cover it with ‘not Clickspring standard’, ‘hardly Clickspring but I’m happy’ etc… If I’d known in advance, I would’ve been writing them down for you. Always got to be a nice little ego boost when other makers hold you as the gold standard (brass standard, maybe?)

Sam Bishop

I'm also looking forward to see how the faceplate is used. It's something I'm considering making. I have most of the tools but not the skills yet. However, I will be very unlikely to reach the level of achievement of the faceplate even before the engraving! Thanks Chris for all your work, it always makes my day happier😀

Richard Gardiner

Chris, I'm Pretty sure that belongs in the Guggenheim, although I know it will be used to create the next epic Clickspring project. Now I understand the practice time! At first glance I thought it was mirrored but it is Not. Just all connected by flowing stems and leaves and overlaps...loved the 3-4 dots theme!!! Think I found my next inspirational background pic. for the slideshow on my PC! Perfection takes time...I'll be here!

Some years ago, NASA sent a spaceship into deep space, bearing various man-made artifacts to show the aliens what we do. If they had included this faceplate, it could have insured our ultimate immunity to alien hostilities. "We can't risk attacking them; they're demigods down there."

Leonard Solomon

No worries, Chris! Rome wasn't built in a day, and if we're getting to see how that whole piece was done, I think we can wait as long as necessary.

TwoRavens

Beautifully done! I’m in awe not only at the skill involved to carve that design out of the stock but also at the creativity in coming up with a pleasing layout in the first place!

Mike Michelizzi

I can't wait for this video. Your quality is the reason you are my sole Patreon. Engraving is a black art to me. Looks amazing Chris. Take the time you need to make it excellent.

Tom G

Really looking forward to this video, hope it's a long one! ;-)

Ian Douglas

I wouldn't be game to use the faceplate for fear of messing up that beautiful work!

Jeff Armstrong

Wooooooow.

Paul Grodt

Absolutely mind-bending the hours that must have taken... It is such a treat just to look at it. Very much looking forward to seeing any part of the journey on any of your projects.

Cold War Motors

More importantly, do we know how old Chris is... He might just have a "young" voice.

Andrew Smith

As long as you finish the Antikythera thing before I die, Chris, then I'm good with your tangents. (I'm 60.) :-)

Sean Kirby

That 1000 hours in 12 minutes chill out video remains one of my favorite YouTube videos ever. I'm very looking forward to whatever you put together.

Andrew Flerchinger

With work this gorgeous we can hardly complain!

Dan Crookston

That looks baller

Ben Secrist

O.O That is amazing, Chris. Well done. I am going to enjoy *that* video when it comes out :)

Duncan Luddite

That looks so ornate. If I didn't know better I'd have sworn it was a well looked after antique! Can't wait to see the process.

Adam Wesley-August

All good! Anything worth doing is worth over doing lol

Luke Pettit

Thanks Ron, appreciate it :)

Clickspring

No, work continues. Much preparation work to be done for the next few Antikythera episodes - Cheers :)

No worries. Your work is always well worth the wait.

Ron Gafron

Have you given up on the Antikythera mechanism?

Daniel Shattuck

Looks like some kind of ornate steampunk over-designed belt buckle. Looking forward to the videos. I'm willing to wait for quality

Sam_is_no_longer_enby

Wow! 🤩

Megan

All good. Patrons support you so you can go off on interesting tangents.

Andrew Smith

That looks spectacular Chris! Looking forward to watching the vids when they happen. All good things take time 😁
