Last Imperium Sheet Updates
These big sheets have a few additions, like all terrain vehicles, a few new figures, and a general cleanups/edits. I might need to be careful about designing player characters as it's unwise to make them so different it becomes difficult for the party to stay together. Maybe the floating black worm can deflate or something.
These sheets are 1:1 work size (flattened) and pretty large.
Random Pantsu
Yeah, that's a Starflight Android.
Imperial Bodyguards
Apparently Adeptus Custodes can now be womenz, or in fact could be all along according to official Warhammer channels and behind the scenes talk from years back. In times of yore WH40K / Rogue Trader had all sorts of random inclusions and mentions but after the proxy model lawsuits (concerning Tyranid stuff iirc) GW now rarely publishes rules/lore for stuff unless they have exact models to sell themselves. So... possibly maybe new sculpts are incoming?
I'm not sure if I care one way or another regarding Custodians, well, beyond the chance to draw some chonky figures for fun. Looking at the now ancient Jes Goodwin sculpts, it seems they started off as sort of shirtless 6-pack Eldar guys in studded pants, and their tall helmets are seemingly a remnant of this design.
C66 case
I have posted the C66 sketch elsewhere but figures I'd include it here because why not. It's very much referencing the Sony HiTBiT F1XD case.
Casio MX-10 Keyboard PSD (see 10MB attachment)
I have also attached a keyboard PSD. The Casio MX-10 looks nothing like my drawing – I just borrowed the text elements from it. My process for these kind of drawings is as follows:
I use a Logitech K120 keyboard and sometimes pop a key to measure it with a caliper. Keys are not neatly square and symmetrical but have all sort of offsets and rounded surfaces. It's very easy to get proportions right when drawing on a screen... Sometimes when I don't measure stuff and just wing it I get scale wrong by 50% or more.
Since keys are aligned on a grid subdivided into fourths, this can be set up in Photoshop using grids. I sometimes use a 112px /4 grid. A selection box can be used to move and duplicate key drawings around with precision.
Colours go in a separate layer as usual. I mostly just paint bucket flat colours within a grid snapped selection box – the line art layer does most of the shading.
I get the key lettering from a reference picture, extracted using threshold tricks. Once cleaned up I separate out inverted letters and logos to a "screen" mode layer (so they can show against dark plastic). Letters rarely appear full black or white so I manipulate layer opacity until things look natural.
Once the keyboard is done I do the surrounding case. The top edge gets a blue tint to suggest light from an out-of-picture screen. By setting the DPI/PPI properly and adding stuff in (like a pencil, floppy, DE-9 connector) I can get a sense of scale. Keys seem to be about 19 or 18mm wide, including gaps.
Then it usually takes several iterations over a day or two for me to try and solve design and layout issues. Sometimes I never solve them but end up with an image which constantly bugs me in unknown ways...
