Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Those of you who follow me elsewhere may have seen me post a bunch of Amiga pixel art. I have now prepared a page, so here's a Sneak preview of that, and an Archon piece I just finished.

Archon is a sort of forerunner to Star Control, with chess-like pieces duking it out arena style. I think these kind of needs are now satisfied by Mobas and such. Doing lots of little running around animation in pixel art is a lot of work so I just settled for the side views here.
The Amiga port of Archon was perhaps a bit lacklustre, so I opted to go for full PAL 320x256 and 32 colours. I suppose with the units moving about there will be some figure (bob) overlaps but it's not too difficult to handle. Most of the units remain static and there's no scrolling to tax the system... until the action segment that is.
I based my sprites here on the DOS "versus" stills.
I also fiddled a bit more with Utopia... and that palette really is a struggle to use with the super saturated blue ramp jumping straight to gray-blue. Here I made the big dude big. I'm imaging him being hunched over like the hulk in that tiny command chair but maybe I need to redraw it from scratch to get the pose to work, rather than relying on the original pixel work.
Next up: Galactic Adventures? I fooled around with this game in 2010 but ran into it again. It's a 1982... uh, strategy combat CRPG party building sandbox space exploration game. It's one of those games which shows a deep desire to do... something like what Mass Effect later did, but it was 1982, so. The game only sold a few thousand copies and is largely unknown, but there exists a few deep dive blog posts about it (hardly any videos though).
