W.I.P Feature Reveals

It's been a while since I posted. Expectedly, the v2 timing model is taking longer than I anticipated, but I've been working on other (experimental) TopMapper features while I wait for training runs to complete. One of them is available now, and the other two are still in development

TopMapper TapMapper

Silly name aside, TapMapper is a genuine feature idea that will give you more control over the map TopMapper creates. The end vision is that you can tap your fingers to the song you uploaded, and TopMapper will use the given times as "inspiration" for the map it creates while using it's own musical understanding to ensure that your map is on beat and fun to play.

Right now however, it's not exactly that. There is an early (not public) version, but the biggest problem is that the model often fails to understand your intentions leading to the entire map feeling slightly off. In addition, it places two notes on almost every beat, which ends up with very boring mapping.

I'm betting on either the v2 timing model or a custom trained model for TapMapper alleviating these issues, but since I'm bottlenecked by compute that'll have to wait.

 

Convert from osu!

After adding TapMapper, another opportunity presented itself. Since the code I wrote influences the generation with user specified timings, the timings can come from anywhere. Using this, TopMapper can now also use reference timings from osu! maps. When this is released, the home page will have an additional option to "Convert from osu!", where you can upload a .osz file from your computer to be used as reference.

 

Keep in mind that I finished the functionality of this about 30 minutes ago. The UI for everything (especially osu! importing) is subject to change and will probably change by the time these are live on the website.

Song Search

For those that have used the website recently, you may have noticed that you can now directly search for songs on TopMapper. This automatically fills in the title, artist, album art, and audio file of any song in the Youtube Music library. Going beyond this, I'd love to automatically scrape thumbnails for any Youtube video and that should be available soon.

 

But what about 360 degree and mapping improvements?

I would love love love to improve mapping ability, but I can only train one model at a time. Unfortunately this means that until the current training I'm doing is complete I won't be able to work on mapping at all. This hasn't stopped me from thinking of ideas. When I can start working on mapping, my first priority will be 360 degree and 90 degree support, followed by having toggleable mapping styles that TopMapper can use. And of course, while working on the model I will try to remove its habit of impossible patterns. But that's all for after this current timing model releases.
