We have 2 tabbies, called them Fish & Chips. And in many years from now when we get 2 more, we think they'll be called Chicken & Avocado

Felis is indeed the name of a genus of small cats, of the subfamily Felinæ, which are "purring cats", distinguished by their hyoid bone from Pantherinæ, or the "roaring cats" (although not all of them roar, none can possibly purr, because of a different hyoid anatomy). In fact, the common domestic cat species is given the name Felis Catus. But "felis" is a grammatically feminine Latin noun for a cat, used sometimes of males, not only females. A more specific word for a male mouser was "cattus" (de-geminated in the Middle Ages to "catus"). Félicette, however, is unrelated to "felis": it originates from the Latin adj. "felix" (same nom. sg. in all genders; n. is rare), which is kinda hard to translate: "felix" was being said of someone who is blessed by unending luck and success by the will of the gods. I think this meaning has been lost in Italian: as a native speaker you're certain to feel different shades of happiness/joy/luck in "felice" and "lieto/a", but to me they seem synonyms. So yeah, Felis is indeed scientific. But it's a scientific name for a cat, and naming a cat simply Cat, even if in Latin is... rather uncommon. :) The connection between Curie and physics is obvious. It's a French last name: Maria Skłodowska-Curie, née Skłodowska, had become known as Skłodowska-Curie after she married Pierre Curie, also a physicist, who also won a Nobel prize in physics the same year 1903 as Maria. The third laureate that year was Henry Becquerel, IIRC. Even more curiously, Maria and Pierre's elder daughter, Irène Joliot-Curie, also shared a Nobel prize in chemistry with her husband Frédéric Joliot. And Maria had been the only person to be awarded two STEM Nobels: her second one had been in chemistry, unfortunately, after the death of Pierre in a tragic accident—he would almost certainly receive it too, as they discovered radium and radon together. Curie is indeed a very scientific name for a cat: four persons of two generations of the Curies received five hard-science Nobels! And the cats are indeed very curious animals, so that would be a good pun, too! The rest of your proposed names I couldn't decode, but, if I were you, I wouldn't insist so hard on any name, and leave the choice to Dianna: after all, it's her cat! :)

We got a cat that had a broken tail. We named her kinky, which is something of a conversation starter. 🤐

Dear Dianne, hope this message arrives to you and your partner before you "baptize" your cat. Please consider Felis, CC, or Tandar if your cat is a he. Félicette, Curie or Martia if your cat is a she. We re pretty sure that you can get the "Science-origin" of these names. Greetings from Ambar and Antonio (from Germany and Mexico City)

It's so nice to see that lovely smile! x

Graphene because cat is tough like you

How about "Diode" after a cat's whisker?

I have Apollo and Artemis (nicknamed Missy). Just remember, dogs have masters and cats have staff. Also great to see your smile.

I like Comet and Trinket from Dianna's list! We just welcomed a new kitten to our house so we now have Inky, Pinky and Kizzy - have fun with your new cat! 🐈‍⬛️❤️

It's so nice to See that beautiful smile! <3

This answers my question at the same time. Let’s go with simpler questions.

Well, as far as cat names go, perhaps you should consider the choices Dr. Sheldon Cooper made for his cats: Robert Oppenheimer, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman, Edward Teller, Otto Frisch, and, of course, Zazzles (because he was so…zazzy)! Credit: The Big Bang Theory, Season 4, Episode 3, The Zazzy Substitution. Love and prayers for you and Kyle!

It's pretty obvious, but Webb would be a great name for a cat!

Yeah, You're smiling :-)

I love animals and always live with them for a week or two before naming them. I guess I like to see their personality first. Stay strong!

I went to a summer camp around the age of nine that was at the base of Pikes Peak (no comments about an apostrophe, please.) On the final day of camp, we hiked up and back down Pikes Peak. When I arrived back home, my mother had picked up a calico kitten that had the best attitude of almost any animal I have ever been around. She would come when I called her, stay with me through laughter and tears, get down off the fridge on command, lay down, roll over; think dog. Her favorite place was the top of the fridge. She had to climb on chairs, stools and counter tops to get up there and she was so proud of herself. I just always thought of my all day group hike on Pikes Peak, so I named her Pike. She was just so much more than a cat! I share your physics lessons with my family because you make it interesting and understandable. Both of my parents were teachers so I remember how much work they put into lessons. You have shared things in the world that I have often read about but you finally explain for me. I pray for your mental, spiritual and physical health often, Dianna, along with Kyle’s. Be God’s. Hal

lol dog. I had a friend that had "wee cat".

Nom De Ploom

I have 3 female cats their names are: Loki (My first daughter and wife are fans of the character); Mina (As in the Dracula character); and Chamoy (A very salty and sour mexican 'candy/sauce').

Hello, I know this is off-topic; I originally posted it to a YouTube video comment before I remembered I'm a member of Diana's Patreon. I'll repost it here. “I know this may sound stupid and maybe gross to some, but considering the condition of Diana’s immune system, could kickstarting her gut with healthy bacteria conceivably help? Can someone please look into it and pass along the information? Get well, Diana! Stay safe, and thank you.”
