January 2024 - Dianna says thank you.

I go to Dianna and Kyle's place every week to make some of Dianna meals and help Kyle with anything he needs. I have not spoken to Dianna in a few months due to her being weak. I come in the room, drop off her food, we give each other a little wave, and then I leave.
Summer of 2023, we were definitely speaking with Dianna more. I felt like I was able to speak with her every couple days, and there were even some good laughs. Since Autumn 2023, Dianna's crashes have been rough. So now, she rests more, and communicates in a way that hopefully costs less mental energy.

I am so happy to see that Dianna is making some improvements. As someone with vocal cord paralysis and lung issues, I often get quite winded and exhausted if I try to speak for more than a few minutes, without taking planned breaks. One accommodation that was suggested to me, and I think might help you and your spouse and caretakers, is learning (or creating) sign language. If you are in Canada, I know its sign language is different than ASL (American Sign language). I thought this idea might help for times when your migraines are quite bad be use the idea of talking and LISTENING hurts. For times when your Kong COVID is affecting your throat and lungs, this may help. Also, I see you using a simple mini marker board. I believe they make super cheap tablets (you can buy a blue light filter for the screen) and use it to write notes that will simultaneously broadcast to whomever you have set to receive alerts that you wrote something down. That way, you don’t have to wait for them to return to the room to ask question.

2024-03-10 16:38:59 +0000 UTCPlease remind Dianna (when she is one day able to take it in) that if she feels frustrated that she is not able to Physics atm, remember that the huge amount of work she has already done has drawn in this huge family, , which is teaching our world a whole lot about Long Covid ME etc. It means that all of us, because we care about her, feel we KNOW someone and that is , in itself also important.

All my students know her face well by the end of the semester! It was only because I was looking to see if she had anything new that I learned of her illness. As a devout Christian, I wanted you to know that I will hold her up in prayer until she's back on the Physics Wagon again. I have joined Patreon just to support her journey, and wish I could do more. Lots of thoughts and prayers coming your way from New Hampshire.
